Hello,

I am looking for a good daily driver. I recently recieved a 1963 Starfire Coupe with trans/engine that need to be rebuilt but the block has two cracks in the cylinder. (Rust cracks).... I purchased a parts car 1963 88 Holiday 4 Door Club-Car, that has a running 394, and a trans that slips in drive but comes with a spare that has no problems. I am wondering if it is worth trying to swap the engine and trans into the starfire and try to get that running or just keep with the 88 4 door and use that as my daily driver? The Starfire would need almost every mechanical part off the 88, including the muffler, driveline, radiator, wiring harness, radio (hehe) and many other parts.

The starfire may be worth more but after a while I do not know if it would be worth all the time and effort to transfer the parts off a running car.

Any info/inquiry would be appreciated!

For a DD I'd use the 88, esp if it's already running and will pass a safety inspection. You can then look for another 394 to rebuild for the Starfire later down the road.

Just remember, in this hobby our time is worth $0. A car is usually only worth the price of it's parts.

Rocketraider- could use the Starfire for a parts car when a convertible comes along???

trackz man, I know of a 1965 Starfire project car here in Medford. It has the buckets & console, 425, "S" exhaust manifold, I think it's pretty much complete except the back seat bottom and carb. If I didn't have too many projects already I'd seriously consider it. John

I don't see why not. A convertible is worth more long term, and if this coupe needs all you say it does, that might be the best option. They're the same car except for the convertible specific stuff.

The 88 would take only about $100. to get it running, and the Starfire would need more then a couple thousand to do the body work, fix the rust, reauphalster the bucket seats, find a 4 brl Carb. and an airfilter for the car. Also it needs almost everything mechanical like I said before!

Have decided to go with the Starfire, we tried everything to get the 88 to not slip but the transmission still slips. It is getting better but still slips. I have most of the exhaust except some of the parts for the dual exhaust. I talked to my neighbor about the body work and he said "no problem" and the wrest of the work would just be transfering the engine into the oldsmobile and testing the wiring harness.
