I am restoring a 69 Cutlass 442 and have to replace the passenger floor and the braces under it. Is there anyone here that has tips and/or pics of how they did theirs? I will be doing this on a rotisserie and the rocker panels are good on the body I have. Thanks in advance.

I did my floors ( first time) I used an air saw which I thought was pretty efficient. I started w a thin blade on a cutoff wheel but I found the air saw easier to use and much cleaner.

On the passenger side I trimmed the replacement panel and screwed it to the existing floor and then cut both parts together that worked pretty good. A couple spots were not as perfect a fit and I used a copper spoon on the backside while welding to prevent burnthru

When I was done I used seam sealer to cover the welds I then painted the pans.

I was happy w the end result but don't have any other similar work to compare to.

Here's a few pictures of what I did on my 64 F-85 Pro Touring build. Your fortunate to have the rotisserie, in order to replace one of those braces the body has to come off. As you can see I replaced everything including the trunk pans and braces. You will need to remove the spot welds on the drivers side floor to get the braces off- I don't think you want to cut the bad part of the brace off and weld to two back together, good question.

There are a lot of pictures in this. I painted the bottom of the floor before welding it in.


The parts I used are for 64-67 so therobski and I have similar parts. There are probably a few minor differences to a 69. The floor braces are spot welded in 4 places to the rocker. I was able to get to the bottom ones with a spot weld drill bit, but used a round ball carbide bit to grind off the top spot welds in order to get the floor braces off.


I found rust under the inner rockers where the brace welds in. That was either 16 or 18 gauge and a pretty simple place to make 1 bend in a flat piece of steel. The inner rocker was galvanized on my car, so be prepared for that if you need to patch the inner rocker.
