Starting on the restoration/modification of my 70. This thread will probably not be for the purist on this site, I will be making some updates along the way (Brakes, suspension, transmission)
starting point, new Ride Tech suspension parts
Getting ride height set
prepping frame for powder coat
Plan now is:
Ride Tech front arms upper and lower
Ride Tech coil over on front and rear
Wilwood disc brakes front and rear
New fuel and brake lines
Energy suspension for body and rear arms
Legend 5-speed transmission
I have factory W-25 complete, W-30 Alum factory intake, W-35 factory wing.
Adding W31 cam to engine. Rest of engine bay will be restored to factory spec.
Minor restoration on select interior components
Strip and paint underside of body
Plan is to get it that far and back on the road. Complete body strip and paint will be phase II.
Things got crazy, I was taking it apart for some metal repair and decided not to stop. Only bad spot in the floor! Filled some misc. holes in the firewall that were added or not needed. There were 23 holes under the dash.. Sigh Hauled the car over to Indy Pro Strip where it went into a phosphorous acid tank. Paint, rust and undercoat gone!
Good afternoon. This looks like a fun project and similar to mine. I'm going resto mod and changing many of the same things to include the brakes, suspension, transmission, dakota digital cluster, adding fuel injection, and have also significantly upped the horsepower and torque from the engine. Here is the link to mine....this year is two years I've been working on it. I hope to be done next Spring depending on how many more delays I experience from COVID.
dc2x4drvr...I also have a LGT700 - 5 Speed still in the crate. How do you like yours? Any concerns you need to share with me?
Any info you can share about the ARH headers would be appreciated. I was going to go stock but Thorton is out of stock and have not read great reviews about other suppliers.

I love the LGT700, works fine with the original z bar, and Quick Time bell housing. The vendor modified the trans shifter so my original Hurst lever bolts to the trans without any modification. ARH, as I said several times are undoubtedly the best fitting headers for ‘70-72.period.

It is e-coat primer. Car is dipped in multiple tanks then oven baked. Tank chart will be uploaded for your viewing pleasure.
Wow! that is quite the process. What else do they dip in this process? Is it mostly auto restorations? It looks like what would be done to raw sheet metal body parts in a factory. What could someone expect to spend for that treatment if you dont mind me asking?

scrappie...To answer your other questions, they dip a lot of trailer frames and parts. Elkhart is the trailer manufacturing capitol of the US. I also saw government Hummer parts and electric vehicle parts/frames.
I have worked in an auto plant paint line and their process is the same. The only difference is the orientation of the vehicle as it goes through the tank. You are correct in assuming the metal has to be clean and raw. My car had just left the Indy Pro Strip facility three hours prior to arriving at Lipperts.
Most of the 50 years of abuse is fixed. Previous owner had used filler to blend in the spoiler risers to the spoiler. Still a little rough around the edges that will be addressed closer to paint time.
Ended up being a pretty good hood overall. Had it bead blasted and the damage is minimal. Looks like it took a shot to the nose at some time in it's life. Previous life had a nut braised into a hole for the hood hinge mount. New metal with a shoulder nut welded to the back side will clean things up. The guy I bought this from said one of the owners had Chevelle style hood pins on this hood. Probably going to cut this out. Would be nice if I could find a picture of a hood hole without the bracket to use for reference. I'll probably just center a hole with the fiberglass hole and make it just big enough to get the pin through.
