64 Cutlass Restoration
Here's my 64 Cutlass im going to attempt to restore. Never tried anything like this before and truthfully only have a vague idea of what to do but i'll learn. Anyways, my father finally let me have his old car that's been sitting in the barn since the year i graduated (1984). He finally realized he was never going to restore it and let me have it to try. In pretty rough shape, floor boards and trunk all rusted thru, engine and tranny needs lots of work. Engine appears to be seized up. It's a 455 engine he got out of a 69 delta royal i guess. He still has the original 350 engine but i think im going to keep the 455 in it if i can. I really don't know where to start first. Guess i'll start with the engine and tranny and go from there. Kinda feeling like i bit off more than i can chew right now. You guys think i got enough car here to work with or am i dreaming? Any advice or input would be appreciated. Guess i'll be around lurking and learning best i can. Sure would be cool to get her back on the road again someday.

Welcome to the site, not a bad start, most of us have seen worse. Bucket seats and a console, 2 door, and BBO, what more can you ask for? As you stated, the rot is your worst challenge, the mechanics are easy.

So that's where the term floorboards originated...
Your car looks very complete but as stated needs resto. Be honest w yourself and set your goals according to ability and cash. Do you want a great paint and interior car or is a driver more what your after? There's certainly different levels of resto, some might clean up everything get the motor running and drive it, others would take everything apart and repaint or replace every part most fall somewhere in the middle.
When I got my dads car, it was in much worse shape than yours but it was complete, it was to much project for me, I wanted a driver. In the end I found a reasonlably priced similar driver cond. car and used a Ton of parts off my dads car, then sold what was left of my dads car. In the end I have a decent driver made the way I want it and when folks say is that your dads old car I say some of it is.
