I am far from an engine expert, but from the pictures it appears like that thing sure lost oil pressure.
You said earlier that only a small amount of watery oil came out when you drained it. If that is all that was in there when you were spinning donuts at high RPM, then the pump certainly went dry.

I have seen many wore out cylinders but never had i seen one with an alligator texture.

On to the rebuild!

Yes it was. Well I will say you didn't do it any favors runing it out of oil but by the looks of those pistons that motor didn't have but a few hundred miles left in it anyway. The piston clearance was set way too tight or its been hot or both.

A little warm does not do that. You would have about had to melt it down.

WELL..... its been a while since i made progress on the car lol. Finally got the engine in for a machining and all that. Found out the engine was bored 60 over already and the block wasnt terrible.... only 4 resleeves and the other 4 walls honed. Got the crank polished and also a re ring kit for the block, pistons were good so i will be replacing them as well. pics of stripping the engine's paint in a few

sorry it took so long to get some more up dates but will take pics of what i did so far

The one with paint was how basically the block looked after i got the block back.

then i used JASCO paint stripper and after the first night this is how it looked

and here is where people will have an issue with what iam doing to the car

I decided that since i am never going to get rid of the car i am going to do it my way and do a modded resto. So with that being said i started to paint the engine and i am painting the block black . Looks good so far and i have also started to strip down the heads. Pics up later

Good to see your back at it. Black with red trim will look better than what you had but that red 455 of Jamesbo's does look good.

If you want an honest opinion that looks terrible. Paint the heads and block to match no matter what color you decide on.

Its kind of an unwritten law in the car guy manual. Heads and blocks shoulds always be the same color unless they are aluminum. Its you car to do what you want but if I bought a car with a motor that looked like that it would be out that weekend for a respray.

I think I would go with the red as I think it looks nicer then the black. Also if it's the number matching engine and you're going back to factory then you should go all the way.

no it is not numbers matching and i decided to go with a modded resto on this car, and the thing with not painting it red is cause i want my own spin on the car and it was either that or i paint the car my own way and that would be silly lol

Finished painting the parts today and put everything together to see how it looked. I LOVE IT so far and am super excited for getting the engine put together and hear it rumble for her "first" time.

First picture is how it looked the night i pulled it out of the car, changed a lot since then

Also Ordered the headers: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HED-58150/

and a new carb also, went from a 870 to a 770 of the same line

No offense, but i'm with richard.

Once its installed its just gonna look like someone was too lazy to pull the engine when putting on new heads(how it will look to everyone else)

I actually did that exact thing years back with my 68 delmont... new heads painted Red- block was black... I had intended on pulling it and painting it red to match the new heads, and I wussed out pulling the block at the last second and left it in & just installed the heads on it.

For the rest of the time i owned it, i constantly got crap about the heads & block not being painted right. Annoyed the **** out of me.

Thanks for the input, and if it does look that bad the good news is the heads are only temporary lol. Just trying something different. and if someone says i was lazy i will shoe the pictures of how i meant to do it that way . But we shall see

I painted my engine black. I hate it. I look in the engine compatment and it just all dull, no POP! Coming out this fall to paint it blue and install all my nice shiny NOS parts.

Different strokes for different folk but my stroke says that is the ugliest engine I have ever seen. You are fortunate enough to have one of the most desirable Oldsmobiles ever. Expect to get a lot of crap as long as you own this car. One thing I am curious about, did the machine shop vat this engine when they did the work. That usually takes off all the old paint.

its cool red but like i said before and will say again, its my car i will do what i want to it and if people dont like it, then tough lol

And the machine shop did clean it they said and the reason the paint didnt come off was because of there being plastic in the paint and it doesnt come all the way off.

Over the weekend had some guys from the olds club come over and start to put the engine back together. got all the pistons in and the cam and then called it a day. Last night we double checked the cam degreeing to make sure it was installed correctly and then put on the front of it and the water pump etc. and then put on the oil pan and called it a night there. Next step is putting the heads on and the intake mainfold to finish her up and the carb obviously then through her on the test stand to make sure there are no leaks or what not on her.
