Nice job. The stripe on the 68 442 is a very controversial topic amongst the "purist" olds nuts (don't worry, I'm not there yet). I think it looks really nice and I believe that the stripe is pretty much in the right place. Theres a whole lot of information on the W36 stripe on this link: https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums/general-discussion/14696-w36-stripes-seven-springs.html . Can't wait to see what your car looks like when its back together

Tom, Did your car have the stripe on it originally? If not, it sure looks to me like you got it in the right spot! And, wow - the color will be quite an eye catcher when you have the car together!

No, It didnt have the strip on it originally. It is a 442, but when I got the car it didnt have the original motor. SO that is why I am "building the way I want". Years ago on the Old's list Chris W put up a picture with measurements of a car with the correct stripe and it did seem to look "more right" without the stripe in ending in the wheel opening. I left them at the same height but I moved the numbers back one space and welded somes holes shut. I am just concerned now they are too high. Oh well, nxt project!

They may be a little high, but since you're building the car the way you want it, that's moot, and besides you've already done the body prep and paint. You'd have to be a perfectionist to take all that apart and redo it. IMO, not worth the time, money or materials. If you're curious about the proper location, go to the link I posted and go to pg3, permalink 81. It has dimensioning measurements off an original 442.
