Back from paint. I am really happy other than now it makes the rest of the paint look that much worse.

Richard,
Your skill in workmanship, patience, and honesty are all any old world master would envy. You are way out of my league. If I could afford you I would not want any other person to do a project for me, but then, I wouldn't have any fun .
Seriously, excellent work.

I don't really have that much skill but I am patient and I am pretty good at watching how something is done and copy it. Thats the great thing about the internet. Things that used to be only by a few skilled tradesmen is common knowledge with just a little searching the web.
You want to see real talent hang out for a few hours in here

So I have just spend the last few hours adding back as many pictures as I can. Photobucket hosted all the pictures and started wanting to charge me $400.00 to keep my pics up on the few boards I was posting on. I sold this can in 2010 as most of you know.
I got a random call in mid 2019 from the owning asking me if I knew anyone that might be interested in buying it. He was trying to open a new bar and needed quick cash. I asked how much and even though I could not really afford it I could not pass up the offer he made. I took out a loan from JJBest and few to California to pick it up. It was unchanged and I put more miles driving it home from California to TX that he did the whole time he owned it.
Late in 2019 there was a local back roads cruise. The guys putting it on formed 2 lines. One was for the Sunday drivers and the other was for "spirited" drivers. You had late model Camaros, Mustangs, Corvettes, foreign sports cars and me in the line. There was some snickering when I pulled in but they were not laughing with I was right with the pack through the curves well above posted speeds. That said they kept trying to loose me in the straights and I was way out gunned in power. I hurt the motor and limped it home. Covid hit and it been sitting since.
I decided I want to take it on Hot Rod Tour of Texas which is like a mini Power Tour so started tearing down a 403 today in hopes of having it running by the end of this month. It will be somewhat of a budget build to just get it on the road since I plan on spend more money on a boost capable SBO in the future.
click below for a quick video I did starting the tear down. Can't figure out how to upload it

Richard, I just went back through this thread and it made me remember the things you have done to this car and what a skilled craftsman you are. I need to start attending the Thursday afternoon gathering again. I know you will bring the car when it is done. I looked at the Hot Rod Tour of Texas and it is sold out. I would ot be able to attend this year but I can put it on the bucket list. Sounds like a great time.

Little progress in the last week
Acquired lots of parts including a set of ported big valve #6 heads.
Tore down the 403. Everything was standard and untouched. Almost no wear on the bores. Dropped the block crank and heads off at the machine shop. Light hone, deck the block and resurface heads was performed.
Pulled the motor out of the Cutlass and started cleaning up the engine compartment while waiting for machine shop.
Yesterday afternoon picked up the machine work and jumped right in to removing the blue off the block and red off the heads. Cleaned and masked then shot with gold. I ordered some new can but did not get hear in time. Used the 15 y.o. cans and sprayed out great.

One day to go
Got the bellhousing dialed in and lots of small stuff done today. Markings on the tape is before adjustment. .007 offset dowel on the LH side made my total runout .004
I had a supervisor for part of the day.
Had to rob the pilot bearing from the old motor. Anyone need lunch? The grease was squeezing out so the bread did the trick.
A bird crapped on my fresh painted valve covers I set out in the sun to dry.
Now at a stand still till morning. The beautiful pieces of artwork made by American Racing Headers will not work with the stock starter. Wife will be at Summit at 9 AM when they open. Not looking good but not ready to throw in the towel just yet.

Getting close. Found a universal stroud at Summit that fits my radiator perfectly. Actually was able to pry my son out of his gaming chair for a few hours today. Couldnt keep him out of the shop until a couple years ago. Discovered computer games with his friends and now rarley want to come outside.😔

I had a similar problem with the steering shaft interfering with the driver side header pipe on my old '48 project. My buddy came up with a solution where we cut the shaft, installed a heim joint which enabled the clearance we needed, that may work for you as well. Maybe you could anchor it off the upper rear control arm location somehow as it looks like there is some room there.
