1967 CS 442 Please Help!

Is it worth 15,000 with new bumpers? Can someone Please help me with whether or not this car is worth this much. It includes protecto plate with matching numbers engine. 104,000 miles excellent door panels and back seat ( front buckets needs reupholstering). Body is solid and said to have been sitting garaged for last 20-25 years.

Price seems steep

Not in my opinion based in the limited info you provided. Do you have a picture of the cowl tag and vin#'s?

Considering I got my 66 convertible for less than half that and in much better shape I'd have to say no it's not worth it.

Although maybe not local, always good to do a quick search to see what else is available "out there" when determine price...a good example...

http://www.ksl.com/auto/listing/2498895?ad_cid=3

I know nothing about the car above, but if it were close to original, which would be the better value?

I'm attaching a pic. of the vin tag now. It is all original, I know it needs drivers side floor pan unsure of passengers side. It is the original block. I'm told it had two previous owners. Second owner began restoration and stopped which explains all the missing trim(all trim in trunk)including grill chrome trim etc. It is a 4 speed manual, for all intent and purposes I again believe the car is all original. Intake is the 455 aluminum edelbrock but seller says they can get an original intake. I believe the carb is also different from original quadrajet. Oh and it does need exhaust.

Please tell me what more I can tell you to make a decision on whether or not this is worth the asking price Thanks in advance

They are asking more than twice what I think the car is worth. Look at ebay completed listings, prices in green, to get an idea of what its worth. See link below:

I see a 1966 decklid (or edge trim anyway) and a lot of missing 442-specific pieces round the grille. Then there's that late-model aircleaner with faux OAI setup.

$15g? I think no.

I agree Eric believe their asking too much. Tops I would say $10,000. I may very well be out of my $500 dollar deposit. I suppose my excitement in seeing a 67 442 this close to home (within three blocks) blind-sided my better judgment. What would be your best offer if I may ask?

True about the setup, though all of the original trim including 442-specifics are in trunk, even so I cant see it being appraised over $8-10,000.
Unfortunately I have to have an answer by tomorrow, no time for that, and it may not be worth another $200 -$300 to have it appraised anyway.

Also it is a Cutlass or CS decklid trim though everything else bespeaks a 442, rear sway bar, boxed rear control arms and even the blacked out area around the rear upper tail lights.

I don't know what state your in, here in Texas it is illegal for a dealership to keep a deposite. I'm thinking if its a real 442 born with a 4spd, probably around $7k in that condition.

X2 with the floor work being in question and paint being bad, seals, bushings, Lot of cost to make it a driver again. You should be able to get deposit back.

Not worth 15, its a real 442 (5vy) and the 4spd is nice and rallye gauges? but some things are not right and paint is very expensive not to mention brake work, suspension work, engine work.... It needs so much. If I were desperate for a 67 such as this I may go as high as 7000....

here is a similar car in far better condition that could probably be shipped to you for less than the 15k that guy wants

https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...e-4-speed.html

and you can drive it now !

If you have any rust repair then its not worth more than 7K. Needing what it needs I wouldn't pay over 6K and it better run for that!

Firstly my apologies to everyone who has responded, I did not mention the obvious which is it does run, in fact it runs and handles pretty well with the exception of the loud exhaust. I test drove the car, it shifts smoothly and steers well.

I don't know how much of a difference this may make to those of you who responded, however I would doubt it would make as much of a difference to justify $15,000 even with new bumpers. However any additional thoughts are appreciated.

I am sure other can chime in more thoughts. The price is too far out of line with condition problems that have been described. Not sure about $7,000 car value maybe $8,000. At 8 thousand then to fix this car right you are looking at $12,000 to $15000 and that is probable low estimate. JMO

Great looking car! However I'm only interested in the 1967 model year. I have yet to find a 67 442 4 speed holiday coupe which is all original including the entire drivetrain that has not been restored, unless it is
rusted out, or restored for less than $20,000.

I managed to talk him down to $13,000, I appeal to everyone who has responded to this post to send me information on a similar car in this condition for less. Please send me the information

I know you said "unrestored" but again, In my opinion, both of these examples are much better value and would allow you to enjoy now with much less valuable time and money input...

https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...967-442-a.html

There was an Unrestored cream colored 67 442 somewhere sown south (Tennessee?) bench seat auto car for 18k a while back - point being, I believe there is better value out there for your money if you remain patient and continue searching

I had forgotten about the Aqua 442, first one. That is a steal. The second is an automatic.

Both of these cars are beautiful there is no denying this, however look at the price tag for second one, and if what Eric says is true its an automatic. Love the 4 speed by the way, but did I mention bucket seats.

At this point I may as well reveal that I did purchase the car, I know this fly's in the face of conventional wisdom, however please keep in mind that I alone have seen the car in person. I don't mean to sound like I'm justifying its price, because I like anyone else would like a deal. But the interior is perfect other than the buckets needing to be re-upholstering and carpet which can be expected. There is virtually no rust other than surface rust. Here's some more pics.

$13,000 with new old stock bumpers as a part of the deal and correct intake, carb and chrome air cleaner

When I saw the post, I checked the calendar.....it is NOT April 1.

That is a $6-7k car tops.

A nice restored 67 442 is in the mid to high 20s

That car needs a total restoration, and even if you did most of the work, you would easily exceed the cost of a restored one.

While we all agree that we think the car may not be worth what the OP paid for it, most will agree that he is not the first to buy a car with his heart. We have all been guilty of it at one time or another. He made an educated decision to do so. I'll also ad that a serious search for a 67 442 with a manual trans proved to be quite allusive at this time. As the OP also stated the pictures don't do the car justice and is better in person. This is a car that the OP has dreamed of for some time and he plans to keep after restoration. I'm happy for him.

Bottom line is that this is your car, your money and your satisfaction. As far as I can tell, you looked at the advice and made a decision. If you are happy with your decision, the car is worth $13,000 to you. Enjoy your car and use this site for information and advice. Very good and knowledgeable people around here.
