1967 442 decoding help
Hey Everyone, just picked up a 1967 442 (or so I was told) it has the heavy duty rear with limited slip and sway bar but is missing everything else.
I will post the vin and cowl tag and maybe the Olds Guru's can help, since the car is a total strip I was looking at going pro-road/weekend cruiser but we'll see and thanks for all your help.
vin as follows: 33817Z12____
cowl tag:
07A
67-33817 BF03549
970 CC
J53569 030391

I don't think that the top 070 is correct, so I will assume that it is 07 C. As far as the other 070 I don't have that one in my trim numbers but my database it not 100% complete. I used 970 only because it is close. As for the rest, here is that I have. You might try placing a picture of it on CO that way we can manage the codes a little better.

Well for starters, Welcome aboard.
67 442? Well you're starting out right. The 442 option was only offered on the Cutlass Supreme lineup in 67. Your VIN
3 - Oldsmobile
38 - (3800 series is f85 aka Cutlass Supreme with V8)
17 - (body style) 2 door post coupe
Z - Freemont California Build
12XXXXX - sequence of build at Freemont Assembly plant
Your cowl tag doesn't really make any sense if this is a 442.
070 - Are you sure this isn't 07 C or 07D? That would make more sense as it's usually the time build code. This could be 3rd or 4th week of July 1967.
ST - 67 - 1967 model year production
33817 - Cutlass Supreme 2 door hardtop coupe
BF - Freemont CA production
03549 - Body number. Each car had it's own unique body number assigned by Fisher.
070?? again? Are you sure it's not 970? That would be trim code TR 970 . Black vinyl strato bucket seats.
CC = I'm sure you'll see PNT next to that. CC is provincial white lower, and provincial white upper (roof and sail panel)
J53569 030391 - these are build sheet reference numbers that coordinated with Fisher body works in Freemont.
Usually there are other groups of numbers on the tag. The one that is most important to identify a 442 option for 67 will be (5)V. I'm not seeing that here. Can you post a picture of the cowl tag? It would make this a lot easier.
Here's an example of a 1967 442 cowl tag so you can see what I'm talking about.

Ok it makes more sense now. This is what I got after reviewing the pic...
It could be a real 442 but as Oldsmaniac stated and I verified cars built in Fremont, CA did not use the "V" code for the 442 option package. It is my understanding that the only way to validate a CA 442 is to find the build sheet.

More specifically: In 1967, Lansing and Framingham had "Accessory Codes" shown on the body tag. That would include the Column 5 "V" that identifies the body mods for the 442 option. Fremont tags did not have these accessory codes.
So there is no way to identify a Fremont car as a 442 from the body tag. Yes, a build sheet would identify a 442, but so would a Protec-O-Plate, window sticker, or other paperwork like a dealer invoice.

Its been covered a few times already with Allan. I dont mean to be a dick but if you dont know stop telling people that the V code should be there. Bad info leads people to think cars are real or fake when they may not be real or fake.
