65-69 442 4 speed console correct black paint

I have a 68 442 4 speed and the console needs repaiting on the top plate in the front. Can anybody tell me what is the correct (Flat?) Black paint to use to do it and were i can purchase it? They are litarilly several hundred shades of flat black paint and i want to do this correctly. Thank you in advance.

A little late but why would you not paint both the front and back plates and not have to endure a possible mismatch. Then you could use your choice of finish. I used Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy Black 20066 78868. Just saying.

Wayne, i plan to paint the entire console and replace worn out booth. This is exactly why i want to use as close to the original paint color as possible.

Thats good. Like to see a picture when its done. Are you going to strip the old paint. Thats what I found was the most tedious part. Well worth it when it's done. I didn't think so until I got about half way thru.

I can't really speak to what sheen the console top plate and glove box plate were originally because mine were flaking so badly but I can tell you that SEM Landau Black was an exact match to the original console base and also the metal dash on my 68.

with all due respect SEM landau black is a VINYL DYE not a paint, and is not formulated for metal nor would I use it for that purpose, whereas the SEM trim black is formulated for just this purpose,TRIM, metal or plastic, hence the name TRIM BLACK , and the question was what is the correct paint to use? not what did you use! SEM trim black is an exact match!
