Looking for ideas..

My 72 Supreme didn't come equipped with a console (auto on the column) so I'm on the hunt for something that looks good but won't break my pocketbook.

I've been thinking about this one but was wondering if anyone has some different ideas/suggestions.

Thanks,
Dave

You could spend $135 on that. Or you could do like I did and find one of these for $5 at a yard sale. Fits on the hump very nicely!

The one above I had in my '73 Custom Cruiser. I don't have that car anymore, so the cupholder is sitting on a shelf.

Here's the one I have in my '67 Delta 88. That's my cell phone sitting on it. Different design, but serves the same purpose and also about $5 at a yard sale.

In addition to two cupholders, it has slots on the right side for three sizes of coins, great for paying tolls or feeding parking meters, it holds seven cassette tapes, that oval opening between the cupholders is meant to hold a Bic cigarette lighter, that rectangular slot just above the right-side cupholder is to hold a pack of cigarettes, that longer, narrower slot just to the left of the cigarette pack holder is to hold one of those small packs of kleenex, and that longer slot just above is for pencils, pens, whatever. One could survive for weeks with just the items you can store in this little console!

Dave,
Here's an idea. I just started looking up cup holders for transmission hump cars and found this site that caters to classics. This one is claimed to be for Oldsmobile cars like yours. It's less than the price on ePay and comes in a color (you can pick others if you want) that match your car better. Only thing I don't know is how they are held in place. That's a question you could ask them, and they do offer free shipping - that's a bonus.

Cup holders - on transmission hump.

Allan, that site says it attaches with a "strap". From the photo, where you can see a part of the strap sticking out the front, I'm guessing it's a strap that wraps completely around the front seat bottom. It's kind of funny that the site isn't more explicit about this point as you would think it would be one of the most commonly-asked questions.

The site also says "In most cases, it sits securely on top of your seat without the strap so that it can easily be removed for car shows." I wonder if it's weighted on the bottom.

Thanks Allan. I came across these when I was looking yesterday. I still may go with them. And BTW, the one pictured is for a bench seat, but they do have ones for cars with buckets.

Do you have buckets or a bench seat? I put buckets in my 77 Cutlass and modified a floor shift console that was correct for my car. I didn’t want to change over the steering column.

That looks good. I have buckets and while your idea is good, a console for my 72 is hard to come by and the $ is too much for me😀

I swapped the original bench with restored buckets in my '72 and put a factory correct console in - had a full top plate made by one of the repro vendors who makes the regular ones. you shouldn't rule the idea out, the consoles aren't that tough to come by (yet)
