Is it possible it is a hold-down/tie-down strap for the radio. It is modestly similar in design to some OEM straps as well as some after market tie-downs.

It looks to be about the right size and shape to be an HVAC duct bracket; perhaps the driver's side, just about in the steering column area. A previous owner of my '68 4-4-2 installed something similar when a couple of the molded mounting tabs broke off.

Looks to be a very important part of the thingamajig. Be very careful on initial start up!

I believe I replaced at least three or four 8-track tape players &/or stereos in both the 67' & 72' vehicles. Each time you replaced one, it seems each came with a tie-down strap different from the previous one!

I looked under the dash and cant seem to see anywhere that the piece would go. I am gonna keep it in case I ever figure it.

It could well be aftermarket and not supposed to be there.

I've torn apart several '69s & have never seen a strap/part like that.

X2 on what Scott said. It's too thin to be structural, so a ground strap is the only option, but the factory ground straps are contoured to fit specific locations behind the plastic dash. That looks home made.

There is a strap looks close to that under floor pan above rear axle used to secure fuel lines on big bodies, Also might of secured vac. lines or hoses .
