1970 CS Bench Seat Adjustment

Sort of an odd question but how much room is there supposed to be between the steering wheel and the driver on a bench seat in a 70' CS? I consider myself average build and approx 5'11". While leg room is comfortable at the pedals, I find it a bit of a tight squeeze everywhere else. I don't have a tilt column yet so perhaps that's part of the issue as well. I've slid the bench adjustment as far back as it seems to want to go but it didn't travel very far. Not sure how much it's actually supposed to slide and if between my bench seat, non-tilt column and my average amount of natural insulation I carry around on my body, is it just something I'll have to live with?
