Anyone ever restore a 70 DeLuxe steering wheel?

My steering wheel is showing some age, it would be so great to restore/have it restored.

I've seen guys do amazing work on steering wheels, but I've never really payed attention to see if anyone restores 70's era stuff.

The wheel itself should be easy to do? Just might have ti skip the horn pad.

Anyone have experience with this?

I helped my father; Oldsguy, restore a steering wheel for his 1969 Olds Delta 88. It worked pretty well.

Interesting, thanks for the replies.

I've got the dark green interior and the line in the middle of the wheel is a nice gold. It's getting that line nice that I'm concerned about, I'm not sure if I can replicate the finish nice enough.

The "gold" you are seeing may be the clear (acrylic possibly) layer that the factory applied over the silver/"chrome" insert. With age, this clear layer can yellow...to the "gold" you are seeing.

The original bright insert was a silver/chrome foil type material.

Can you post a pic of your wheel?

Are you referring to the insert that runs around the face of the wheel "circle"? (as shown in silver in the pic posted by kennethlaw442)

Bad lighting in these photos but hopefully they're enough.
The horn is gold in the center and I just figured that the ring on the wheel was too.

For comparisson, does anyone have photos of DeLuxe wheels that are in original condition without the yellowed/cracked inlay?
