68-69 convertible front shoulder belts

I'm putting together my '69 4-4-2 convertible after years of it lying dormant. I have a question regarding convertible front seat shoulder belts, and that is, where exactly does the belt go that has the buckle? I took the car apart in the early 90s and I just don't recall exactly where those belts went.

I saw the attached page in the '68 body service manual and I rigged my driver side (pic also attached; haven't done the passenger side yet) just like it shows in the manual. There are two screws/fastening points on the front end of the upper top compartment side trim panel. My question is, does the belt go between the two attachment points or above the top attachment point?

Another thing that's kind of interesting - the plastic sleeve shown in the picture. I don't think my car has ever had those plastic sleeves, unless someone tore them off between 1969, when the car was new, and 1987, when I bought the car.

Please let me know so I can either change where my belt is running now, or know that what I did was correct! Thank you!

Randy C.

EDIT: I don't know why the picture came out on its side. It doesn't show that way on my computer!

Here is a pic I found that give you an idea. I have a 70 Cutlass Convertible without this option but I would love to add it. What is the legnth of the shoulder strap? Is it the same as the ones for a hardtop?

Thanks for the picture. It tells me I have the strap in the correct position - between the two attachment screws.

I measured and my shoulder straps are 52" long.

If you add the convertible shoulder belts, there is also the little retainer clip for the belt buckle on the front side of each lower side trim (arm rest) panel, just below the courtesy light. That might be hard to find if you haven't found them already.

I just looked at the pictures again. The hardtop shoulder belt uses the latch and has the buckle mounted to the floor. Looks like the convertibles mount the latch to the floor and the buckle in the back. Which means the hardtop setup would not work. I'm pretty sure they are nowhere close to 52 inches on the hardtop also. Closer to 36 inches probably. I wonder if anybody is reproducing the convertible setup?

I think they are. I found someone somewhere but lost the info when my computer blew up. I was looking for my 71. I will try and find again this weekend because I want to put them in my 71.
