who makes the best top for a 70' Cutlass Supreme Convertible?

I'm looking for a new top for my 1970 Cutlass Supreme convertible. Seeing if anyone has any recommendations. How do I know if my top is a floating bow top?

I have used Crown and Kee and found both are quality tops.

What are the actual specs supposed to be? I have seen 38 ounce. Is that correct?

I'm not sure. Do you know how to tell if you having a floating rear bow? I do not know how to tell on my Cutlass.

You can't buy an actual spec top anymore. You could up 'til about 2 years ago. ARA made one, they make the tops Fusick carries, they are pretty good. Electron makes a good top, but you can't buy direct. An original top was like you buy now, but they had another butyl (like tire tube) layer on the inside. They were a LOT thicker, more durable, and held their shape better. Robbins is a good top. In general, there are 2 thickness tops sold now. All the material comes from the same place (Haartz) I think. You get what you pay for.

I bought a convertible top for my '68 4-4-2 but had an upholsterer install it. When I scheduled the upholsterer, he told me he would install only certain brands of tops and there were others that he would not touch. Fortunately, the brand that came to me (Kee) was one of his favorite brands. So...if you are going to have an upholsterer install it for you, be sure to ask him if there are any particular brands he likes over others, or especially if there are brands that he will not install.

X2 this is excellent advice and absolutely true. The truth is...if you buy it from the installer, it's really not a lot more $, he will make a bit more, and it's WAY easier for him to return it if it's defective.

These guys are somewhat local to me and claim they make tops for the industry. Prices are reasonable. I had planned to visit them but there place here in RI is just a manufacturing facility.
