Question Power seat cable lube

What is recommended lube for 1968 model year power seat cables?

I don't have the '68 manual. In the '65 manual the only lubricant mentioned in connection with the seats is "Lubriplate" (630AAW) or equivalent, but not specifically for the cables. It is mentioned generally when dealing with the seat adjuster transmission.

I have found that old grease has become like dried cheese. This is common in the gearbox and selection mechanism that drives the power seat. Dig it out and wash it out and replace with fresh grease. Silicone grease promises to never dry out and turn to cheese, but really any fresh grease should be good for the next 40 years or so, eh?

Ozzie and Octania,
Thanks for the info. I'll check out the Lubriplate.

The problem started with the seat in the car with the mechanism under load. It gradually slowed down over the years, and then eventually did not move but still drew battery current. With the seat out and the cables disconnected from the side supports i.e., mechanism under no load, the motor and transmissions seem to work OK (used jumper wires for this). So I removed the 2 side supports, cleaned them out, and am in the process of putting them back in. I used white lithium grease on the pivot points, and graphite/moly grease on the horizontal slide rails. Now want to use the proper lube on the flex drive cables before I put it back together. If there is still a problem, then the culprit is probably hardened grease in the seat adjuster transmission.
