Is the floor in my '68 442 a red primer, or is that the original Scarlet lacquer I'm seeing in there? It's a little hard to tell. Need to know if I have to order some red primer for the floor boards.

I look at it this way. Under the carpet won't be seen, so it's technically a non-issue.

That said, most bodies had color overspray on the floors, some (notably Toronados) had black.

I Rustoleumed my 74 Hurst since it's not seen and gives me an added layer of rustproofing which, for those familiar with the 73-75's, is an important issue.

Yeah, I guess that's a good point. I guess preventing the floor from rusting again should be somewhat high on my lists of priority.

I used POR15 as I already had some surface rust. It did not look pretty afterwards but it will rust no more. That stuff is tough as nails, too!

I primed and painted my floors, if i had POR15 at the time I would have used it. Only takes one spot of cancer to rune a life time of work.

POR 15 is great stuff. Either use that to prevent rust or get rubberized undercoating and spray the floor pan to act as a sound deadener.

I am with rob and olds64 I made repairs to the floor pan and used por 15 afterward, I think I would put por 15 down before the undercoating if you were going that way because I think the undercoating can trap moisture when I stripped the bottom of my car I found rust under the undercoating!!
I sanded my entire frame down to nice shiney metal, then used por 15 then sprayed it with gm chasis black while the por15 was still slightly tacky, it looks GREAT!! on the floor I could have sprayed primer and then body colour but as these guys say it isn't seen I am going to put either dynomat or the original sound deadening back in and carpets

I am pretty sure that there are instructions on how to spray por-15 on the package, one thing to rememnber once you open a can of por 15 the shelf life isn't long ( days not weeks ) even with a closed lid, it also comes in small pint jars so you can use it all for a portion of the project and move on. the whole floor pan would probably take 2 pints ( top side) I even did the bottom side and since I don't have a lift it was MESSY!!!! and them black freckles you'll end up with last a LONG time

Nice looking floorpan... I should have used black, but I had a lot of clear left over, so i used it up on my floorpan. No more rust worries now!

If you decide to put in dynamat (as suggested in a post above), be patient and careful. That crap is so sticky, it WILL pull POR15 (and paint) from the metal! Once it is stuck, it is stuck.

Thanks for the tip rob... not sure I will use the dynamat as it is really really pricey!! LOL.. as if anything in these cars aren't LOL... and convertibles are rarely quiet even with the top up and the windows closed....

I sprayed on the Por 15. They have a product called SOLVENT that will thin the POR 15 so you can spray it.

I just finished dynamatting my 'vert, and I will post results and opinions.

Not only is it a pain in the pocketbook, but a pain to install! Pics will be posted tomorrow in the interior makeover thread...
