'74 White

As you know by my other threads, I am looking into buying a '74 H/O. It has been painted recently, and the white is best described as cream. Looks good, but is it correct, (color match a problem if I add the "pace car" decals)?

I understand price is subjective, but what is, how can I word it?, too much to have invested in a really nice W-30?

As always, thank you

That's always a hard question to answer. The saying about what something is worth is, "it's worth what someone is willing to pay." I know, not a big help! A very nice black 74 H/O W30 just sold on eBay for $15,300. You'll see prices of 74 W30's all over the place. They are rare cars; only 380 were made. Condition and originality is everything, but I'd say a nearly perfect W30 would be worth in the $25K to $30K range. Black cars are a little more desirable than white ones. I've got a white W30 and when I get it done I'm sure I'll have more than that in it!

Regarding your question about the white, the car was originally painted Cameo White, paint code 11. I would describe it as a "soft" white, as in not an ultra bright pure white, but I wouldn't call it cream. There is no white on the pace car decals. Original lettering was on a sheet with a clear background. The clear would yellow over time. Repro kits available currently are dry transfer decal lettering with no background. Looks better, IMO but not how the originals were.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll try to help. Send me a PM if you would like.

Thank you. Might just be my eyes, I got the car this week, and others that see it say it is indeed "white", not cream. Must be me.

Good to know about the decals too. I have a '75 T/A that I got new. It's decals were as you say, and the clear did indeed not last very long. I like the replacement type much better.

One small item about the decals... I haven't seen anyone sell a correct 1974 H/O "W-30" decal in a while, even PG doesn't have a correct one. Most that I have seen run the black outline right up to the gold when in fact on the W-30, there is a white space in-between the black and the gold, see attached.

That looks like correct code 11 Cameo White. I had a '72 442 convertible in that color.

From your pics, it looks like the white is correct. I'd like to get some info. about that car for the 74 H/O registry. I'll send you a PM early next week.

Thank you,

Looks correct to me. Sweet ride. The gent I purchased the 68 in my avatar off of had a condition 0 white one and a 75 W25 driver. The garage queen was spectacular! Hes a known OCA chapter member on the west coast.
