1969 ram canister need help
Trying to restore my original ram air all that is left is the dome. The original owner cut out the flapper to get more air the the carb. Is it ture that you can use the 69 ram air from the cobra ???

The working parts were made by Ford. The vacuum motor even has a FOMOCO logo on it. The metal Ford assembly was trimmed down and tacked onto the custom base you have remaining (if the balance of the flat portion of the top were still there). Hurst did the same with the Rambler Scrambler and another AMC or two, although for the AMCs they mounted them to the bottom of the hood rather the top of the air cleaner.

SO did hurst have the canister and the flaper built and used the design from ford. Or did they buy cobra ram air lid and cut it down to size to fit on there base. Trying to decide if I buy a cobra ram air will it have the same look as the hurst. The two style cues on hurst are the v stamped on the flapper and the over all look.

I've gotta believe that the working assembly was bought by Hurst, trimmed down, and tacked onto the custom base. I don't know the details for fact, but I do have a little more info to pass on.
I tend to believe that the final H/O top assembly was done by Demmer. I know for a fact that Demmer made the spoilers. Some friends and I visited the Demmer retail store (next door to the factory they did the H/O mods in) in August of 1982 (during the OCA Nationals) and they were selling spoilers over the counter from a big tote box of them they still had in the back. I bought about 40 of them then and over the next year or so (until they ran out of pedestals). They also still had one brand new 69 ram-air adapter top (that they wouldn't part with). They did sell me a spare NOS vacuum motor though. Says FOMOCO right on it and has the same 5-69 datecode that the one on my assembly has. In talking with them at the time, they also told us that they had made the thermoplastic ram-air scoops for the Olds W-cars along with a lot of other prototype and various other parts for Olds and other car makers. They thought they had pieces of the tooling for the scoops somewhere, but they had likely been scavenged for later projects and couldn't sell us those either.
I was fortunate enough to find an NOS aircleaner top for my car back in the early 80s (that and the spoiler were the only unique pieces my car was missing). I was looking for Ford pieces for a while back then. I don't think the Ford pieces are inexpensive to come by. You also have the problem that the remains of your top are trimmed too far to the edges to mount the Ford top properly if you got one and trimmed it down to the proper size.

Yep, completely agree, Demmer/Hurst sourced the parts from Ford and used them for the top.. Also, AMC as in the Scrambler... which Hurst also designed used portions as well, see the pics below...
1st is my top
2nd is a Cobra Jet top
3rd is from a 1969 Scrambler
4th is from a Javelin
