Were all the HOs built in Lansing like w30's? What should the data tag have for the paint code? 50-50?

Yep, all of the H/O's were made in Lansing! I will have to look into the cowl tag for you.

What should I be looking for in the way of documentation? Broadcast sheets, build sheets, and window stickers would be nice but what about Hurst specific things?

The only "Hurst specific" thing you are likely to find is the tire pressure decal on the edge of the driver's door. Note that these are available as repros.

Also, cowl tag will ONLY have '33687LAN', '50 50' (Cameo White) paint code and '930' (Black bucket seat) interior code and build dates ONLY between 3D to 5E (4th week of March to 5th week of May respectively).

And what is different about the door tag than a 442? How can I tell a fake? The v.i.n. doesn't start with 344 so any cutlass could be dressed up as a HO?

the door tag tire pressure decal differs from the 442 in part because the H/O had 15 inch tires with the weight of a 455. unless its a convert it has to start 344

This:

Huh?

The COWL TAG doesn't start with 344..., because the ones on Lansing-built 442s didn't either for most of the 1968-69 model years. This is well documented in the Fisher Body Manual for those years. The VIN absolutely DID start with 344... for all 1968-69 442 and H/Os.

The weight of a 455 is within a couple of pounds of the weight of the 400 that was in the 442s.

Huh? Are you saying that the 1969 H/O converts weren't based on 442s? All 69 442 convertibles absolutely did start with 344... VINs.

Is there a list on this site somewhere, because that would pretty much exclude the fakes..

"The weight of a 455 is within a couple of pounds of the weight of the 400 that was in the 442s. "

Since the only difference between the '69 400G and the '69 455F is the bore size/ piston size, I'd say the weight discrepancy would be on the order of 5-10 lbs at the most. Well, there is that extra boss on the intake, and a second rocker cover breather...

here is the link to many of the known VIN's
