help with radio removal 1976 Regency
#3
When you say "disconnected," I presume you mean the wiring?
It is held in place mechanically. There is likely a strip of metal that the back of the radio is bolted to that braces the radio from behind. Have you looked up behind the radio to see if something like that is there?
You also need to pull the ***** off and loosen and remove the nuts that hold the two shafts in the dash.

I'm guessing you can't get it past the narrow opening between the lower dash and the firewall. The lower dash has to come off to get it out.
First remove the trim strips below the instrument cluster and glovebox, they're held on with serrated studs and pulling straight out will remove them.
Remove the ashtray and lighter and disconnect lighter wiring. Also unhook the A/C lap vent hoses.
Disconnect the parking brake release cable from the parking brake mechanism under the dash.
There are several 1/4" (may be 9/32", it's been a while) hex screws behind the trim strips. Remove them all. There should also be a screw on the sides visible with doors open.
Reach behind each end of the lower dash panel at the bottom and you'll find two nuts. Remove those and the lower dash should drop out. Lay it aside and you should be able to undo the support brace and lower the radio out from the back.
You'll be amazed at all the room under there once that lower dash is out the way.
