I am looking for an Olds oil pan with the extra capacity canister on the side. I understand that they were used on the 371 & 394 Olds. Does anyone know if this pan will fit the 303? Anyone got one for sale? If it will not fit, I would still buy one and cut the side out and weld it in my 303.

look for the '61 or 62 and up 394's - they have them.. Im not too sure they are an 'extra capacity' pan - I still calls for 5 quarts with a oil filter change. If you trying to adapt one on a 303 be aware that the huge oil filter canister on the 303 my be hitting the extra resevoir on the pan

I have an expanded capacity oil pan on my '58 Olds. I would trade for a decent regular capacity pan. I want to install a spin off filter adapter and I think the expanded cylinder is in the way.

As I have a 62,this thread caught my eye.

I have to agree with an earlier post: Since a complete oil/filter change calls for 5 qts. of oil, where is the extra capacity? Additionally the location of the contraption is up so high on the pan, I fail to see how it would hold any oil that could be used?

I have never had the pan off, but it seems more logical the, whatever it is, houses some part, like part of the oil pump or something.

What I do know is, it is a royal PITA to change an oil filter because of the obstruction!

IIRC, the added "can" doesn't house any parts. Today, I'd mock up a cardboard sump that clears everything and allows removal of the engine (enough clearance to crossmembers, etc.), then weld on a sheet metal sump and make a deeper oil pump pickup if needed. I don't know that the extra capacity matters anyway, on a stock engine.

If you want extra capacity without dealing with an obstruction you could run a remote oil filter kit with a large oil filter intended for diesel engines. I've seen this done numerous times. Here is a remote oil filter kit for your application:

The extra capacity canister is mounted very low in the side of the pan, it houses nothing. I don't want to run a remote filter, I want this because it is an OLDS part. Am building a rod and want to use Olds parts on it. Any one got one for sale????

You have to be more descriptive as to which era of Engine you need the Pan for, as there are different shapes for the gaskets as the years change up.... 371 Pans are really different then say the '63/'64 Pans that are on the "394".

I'm going to use it on a 303. What I'm looking for is a good canister that I can weld into my pan to make it LOOK like an origional canister pan.
