65 Steering Column

OK, stupid question but what is the length of a factory floor shift steering column for a 1965 Cutlass 442. 32 inch? And can you install one size shorter to move the steering wheel back off the drivers and closer to the dash?

There was only one "size." A smaller wheel or moving the seat might help. The column is mounted from the dash underside, and also connected to the rag joint and gear box in the engine compartment.

But what is the length? Considering replacing column with an aftermarket tilt wheel. After re-measuring I think it is a 30" but just not sure.
