Type O axle vent?

Hi guys, when servicing the gear oil on my 67, I noticed a 1/4”-3/8” or so sized hole on top of the axle tube. Passenger side, very top near the hard brake line. Is this a vent hole, or was there a plug that might have fallen out? Not seeing anything to describe it in my chassis manual. Seems like an easy spot to get water or dirt inside. Thanks

There should be an axle vent similar to this: You need to know the size of the hole.
