Well, it's NOT the 1971 442 air cleaner, as the HEI notch shows. Besides, the snorkels on the 71 are slightly different.

Thx Joe, I didn't think so because it looks a bit smaller also and I have one to compare to although I didn't even attempt.
I was thinking someone might just know right away?

P.S. I notice some holes in the bottom of the unit in your pix. I'm guessing for drainage? much like the OAI but not open to the elements, is that correct? I'll have to see if mine has those?

Weren't the snorkels far shorter and fatter on the G body dual snorkels? How about 1973-74 H/O?

Ok, I have a question about this snorkel (which was also on the 72 Cutlass) but only on MT cars. Why? I don't understand why it couldn't be part of any 4bbl application for 71/72. What am I missing? BTW I do have one of these air cleaners and it fits perfectly on the 7042250.

Allan, I can only guess, but Olds for some reason did things differently on the MT cars. Witness the dual ventilation with the PCV going to the intake. In the case of this dual snorkel air cleaner, obviously the second snorkel opens at W.O.T. for more airflow (albeit with more inlet noise). MT cars got a different cam from the AT cars. The assumption was that MT cars were likely ordered for max performance, AT cars more for cruising. (Don't even get me started about the AT W-30 cars... )

They were also straight across.

Well, it MIGHT be a 73.

FYI, this photo is from a four speed 1973. Note that 1972-down cars have the long snorkel on the passenger side and 1973-up has it on the driver's side.

Joe, I would like to know what you are thinking.

I noticed that the 71/72 dual snorkel actually don't have dual PCV inlets. Only one. The one side has a rubber plug, but I understand your point. Problem is the 71/72 valve covers only have a PCV inlet on the drivers side. Maybe that was different for the OAI cars? BTW did you notice the drain holes in the bottom? Very very similar to an OAI base. Maybe it was intended to be used as such for an OAI application and MT? Just fishin.....lines in the water now....
