1955 Olds torus gasket question

I am installing my 1955 324 motor after rebuilding. my question is if i should use any type of sealer on the torus cover gasket, the manual says to use Vaseline to hold the gasket it place. Also should I use Loctite or some other type of thread sealer on the torus cover bolts and also on the flywheel to crankshaft bolts. Please advise as to what would be the best product to use.
thanks DaveT

If mine (and I have one)I wouldn't use or haven't used any extra sealants or adhesives and never experienced any issues..... Tedd

I agree with Tedd. If the mating surfaces are "correct" and clean and the gasket is undamaged, there should be no need for any sealant. Page 3-36 of the 1955 Oldsmobile Shop Manual discourages the use of any sealant at this location. I did mine without sealant, and it held tight.
