Good evening, I have a question for you. I have a 1961 Dynamic 88, 394, 2 barrel, carb. Iam going to upgrade to a 4barrel. What is recommended? I know work has to be done to make an Edelbrock function properly. I have a stock 4 barrel intake.

Although Tedd is correct, I like the latest design from Edelbrock AVS2 series, with electric choke and 2 cfm options, it seems like a good carb. I'm a Quadrajet lover, but the on your application the Edelbrock would be my first choice. Good luck with your conversion.

Doesn't your Dynamic 88 have the Slim Jim Rotohydramatic transmission in it? If so switching to an aftermarket carb will be rather difficult. You would have to make sure the manual throttle valve lever was setup correctly. That transmission does NOT tolerate misadjustment. Be careful!

If you've got the Hydramatic, the easiest approach would be the Rochester 4GC and the original 4GC linkage, unless you are really good at linkage fabrication. If you have the 1961 Oldsmobile service manual and would like to see what is involved, look on pages 3-73 through 3-76. It's nothing for a novice to tackle. Even with the original linkage, sometime it's a challenge to get that Hydramatic to shift properly.
