'70 Cutlass Shift Lever End Assembly?

I have a '71 tilt column shift in my '70 and want to change the shift lever to the correct '70 shift lever with fluted metal handle and woodgrain-look end cap.

How is the shift lever end cap and metal handle attached to the shift lever? Is there a threaded washer nut that fits inside the hollowed out rim of the rubber end cap?

The '70 fluted metal shifter handle is shorter in length (about 3/8") than the smooth shifter handle on the '71/'72. I'm aware that the column shift lever for the tilt column is different than the non-tilt shift lever.

NOTE: I posted this question in the "Interior" section. Mods, please delete my thread there.
