Does anyone have a good way to remove the defroster switch from the heater box on a 54-55? This is the switch that is linked to the defroster door and is held in by a spring steel clip. The clip picks up three "tabs" on the switch.

Please check out the pictures in this thread. I just pulled the heater box off a 1954 to remove the relay for another member here. Are you wanting to remove the black plastic switch with two wires going to it? The pin on the door clips into this switch. Or are you describing something else, and if so can you point it out in the photos? John

I am referring to the switch in the upper right corner of you photo of the heater box, not the black heater door switch.
The switch I am referring to is round and has two tabs off the back.

OK, got it Charles. Do you have the heater box still installed under the dash? Here's some pictures of the spring clip for others to focus on the area your working. I'm thinking tap the two ears with a punch and rotate the clip counter clockwise. But since I've never done this hopefully someone who has can provide suggestions on how best to do it. John

That's the switch! Box is out and on the bench. Problem is there are three ears and I only have two hands - darn it!
So let's see if anyone has done this before!

Bingo, I got it!
For anyone else, using a drift and a small hammer tap one of the outside tabs so that you rotate the whole switch and lock ring counterclockwise. It then falls out! Simple when you know how!
