Quadrajet throttle shaft

Im rebuilding a carb from a 403. The primary and secondary throttle shafts are rusted. Could i just find a quadrajet from the junkyard with decent throttle shafts and clean them up and use those?

Yes, as long as your throttle linkage hookup can be used.

Qjet throttle shafts are NOT created equal. There are different throttle arms. There are different lengths. There are some secondary shafts with lockout linkage and some without.

can you post a picture of the rusted shafts? were they moving freely or were the blades stuck in their bores also?

I would try and clean that base plate as an assembly. Soak in carb cleaner and try using a mild brush , think tooth brush not true grit steel bristles

I would guess some of that crud is carbon

If that does not work then maybe buy a different base or complete carb if you can.

All the best

Throw it in a blaster and it will clean right up. Soda blaster would work also but isn't real good with rust but it will polish up nice
