Putting aftermarket AC in a 67

I am curious who has put an aftermarket AC system in a 66 or 67. We are building a 67 442 now that is factory heater only. Original 5vy with stock 400 and 4 speed. Has anyone installed the Vintage air 68 up system in a 66 or 67 would be nice to have the cableless controls. Who has used what and what was good and what was bad about it? Or should I install a factory system?

I know this has been addressed in various threads before but seems to stick to 68 up cars.

Any help would be great

Larry

I would think that a 66-67 Chevelle under-dash unit would be a far better fit than a 68-72 Cutlass unit. Of course, you'd need to talk VA into selling you the Chevelle underdash and Olds engine brackets as a set. And the controls would be custom.

Thinking about the same for my 66

beyond what I feel comfortable doing so took it to local custom shop.
let me know would be generic type kit and he'd fabricate the brackets
also recommended upgrading the radiator and would change out dash controls
at this point sounds like a 3K upgrade with labor so Ill just stick to frequent stops at Dairy Queen for refreshments

Larry,

I did this exact thing to my 67, but it had factory A/C. I used Vintage Air parts. 67 Chevelle evaporator, 68 Olds engine brackets, 68 olds condenser kit and a custom/aftermarket center vent. Call me if you like and Il'l give you all the details. I think it worked out great and you can't readily tell it's not factory. I was even able to add a power antenna to the front fender. Follow the link on my sig for some pictures of the installation.

I just finished installing an Old Air Products A/C system in my 64 F-85 Pro-Touring project. They were extremely helpful and I saved a few $$ over the VA unit. My thread under major projects was updates with pictures and dialog. The compressor is attached to 67 400E with 65 A-heads (for now)
