Need to be informed about my F32

Hi guys and gals,
I have for years tried to find the answer to this question. On the dash of the 1932 F Model are a series of 'pull *****' i.e.: Lights, Shutter, etc. The **** to the far right (passenger side) on the dash is broken off. What was it for??

Thanks, John C.

Is it a cable or switch, can you follow what ever is connected to the destination?

Like Eric said, look behind the dash and follow what ever is coming from the switch to its destination and theres your answer. Should be very easy, I cant imagine theres much under the dash of a 32

Thanks for the responses. Guess I have been a little lazy for not looking under the dash and tracing its destination. Will check tomorrow and let all of you know. The car has been up on jack stands, covered, and started monthly. For some reason I've decided to pay more attention to it of late.

OK ...... So I looked under the dash and the area in question is not a cable but rather is wired to the light switch across the dash to the left. I'm thinking therefore it must have been some kind of map light? I'll need to contact fellow 32 owners for confirmation and a pic

Arrow is the area in question. The light switch is to the left of the keys.

Retro, I've seen these pics before and sure wish there was a closeup of that specific spot. It is different than all the others that are labeled with there function. perhaps the center white circle is a lens of sorts. Hmmm

Eric, Yes.... It is a very attractive car. My wife says I can claim ownership to the others but the 32 is hers.

Gentlemen. Thanks for the incentive to get to the bottom of this question. I was wrong as to where it is wired. It is wired to the ammeter rather than the light switch. It therefore is hot at all times as it is wired to the battery. I tested with a voltmeter to confirm. So... I can assume it was some sort of a switchable light. My plans are to install this light I found in my'goodies'

I inherited from my Dad. I'll wire it to a toggle switch on the bottom edge of the dashboard.

If you take it out of the dash and take it apart (everything from that era comes apart), you'll know for sure exactly what it is and what it does.

I posted the question on the AACA Forum as well and got a response that it is for a cigarette lighter. I'm not so sure. There is no well within the dash. All that I know of the workings of a lighter would have to be above service. Also there is no ash tray.

It seems like there should be some clues in the Oldsmobile Owner's Operating Manual.

Cigar lighter it is. Now the issue is finding one. Spoke to Roy in Santa Barbara, Ca. He's 93 years young and runs a family business that caters to classic car accessories made available at the time by the auto manufacturer. Waiting on some pics and prices.

I've learned that in the 31, 32 years there were two designs for the lighter. One, that we are all aware of where the female receiver well is within the dash. And another that was a flush mount unit whereby the female receiver is outside of the dash. Mine is a flush mount. Roy sent me photos. I know they're hard to come by, but I personally think it's a bit to rough too fetch what he's asking.I'll make him an offer and see what happens.
