Gas tank color

I知 getting around to detailing my under carriage on my 65 Cutlass and want to clean up my gas tank. I知 wondering if I should paint it black or silver? I know it came from the factory galvanized. What痴 the most common paint people have gone with?

This is what I used. It worked great and still looks good 5+ years later:

Are you going to restore the tank and line the inside? If so, here's a good kit:

Gas tank

I just did a light sand and covered mine with rattlecan satin black. I like it, but your mileage may vary.

I like the idea of the hammered silver look. Thanks for the reply, I think I might try it.

My '65 442 got the dealer optional undercoating which included the fuel tank; so, it has always been black. I suppose it comes down to personal preference, so make a choice.

Eastwood makes tank tone silver spray paint. For a weathered look, Rustoleum stainless steel color.

I'm not sure if the Rust-oleum I used is close to the OE color. I just thought it would be durable. It's been lookin' good for years now.

Here's a pic!

Check out those 45" glasspacks. You can't even buy them anymore! They are so loud I can kill baby seals from 3 miles away!

X2, that's what I used. You need 2 cans.
