Dash pot

I need a dash pot for a 70 cutlass with a 2barrel. Anybody make them? What it does is when i'm at a light for awhile, It just dies. Then of course it hard to start.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I do not believe the dashpot is your problem. Sounds like more of a carburetor issue.

The dashpot is to prevent the throttle blades from closing all the way to fast. If your problem is when sitting then the dash pot is not the problem.

Could be many things but air leak somewhere in the fuel line system seems possible or a fuel pump valve that is going bad.You really need to do some investigation before we can help. Have you taken off the air cleaner and checked to see if there is fuel in the carb bowl( pump the throttle to see if the accelerator pump has fuel to it).You need to sort out whether it's fuel related (probably) or something else.... Dashpots to my knowledge are no longer being produced. You would have to find a NOS unit.

I don't think a dash pot does do much more than slow down the linkage to the carb on deceleration. It was the first of the steps the car company's did to help emissions.Could be wrong on this, all my cars are ether old enough to be emission free or fuel injected.... Tedd
