AC hoses
Hi guys
I'm looking to replace the AC hoses on my 442. Hoping some of you can help me out on where to find the most original looking hoses for the best price.
Thanks

Jerry, if you're going to use the newer R134a in your system in place of the original R12 you should get a modern set of hoses. They have a "barrier" lining in them that works with R134a(they work with the original R12 also). The R134a will eventually break down the original hoses on the inside & they'll start to leak. Someone had converted my '68 to 134a before I bought it & it still had the original lines on it. It worked but after running the a/c for a summer the discharge line off the compressor would weep fluid. I went ahead & replaced all 3 lines with a set from classic auto air. They were a little pricey at $350 plus shipping but they look & fit well. The crimping on the fittings doesn't quite look like the originals(they have more "ribs" than the factory crimps)but the discharge line has the 1 piece factory style foam sleeve on the muffler that the earlier repops didn't have. Make sure you replace the filter/drier with a new one while your system is apart.

Does anyone have experience with "oldairproducts"
I'm having a tough time finding all 3 AC hoses and Dryer that are NOS or at least a good
aftermarket representation of NOS.
Any help or ideas on where to find the hoses will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

My only concern with buying used is finding the same issue I have with my original hoses is finding that they may leak where mine leak where the ends are crimped on the hoses. My hoses look great but with a "sniff " when we serviced it we found the leaks discribed.
Does anyone know if the ends can be re-s wedged?

Sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if a shop refused to do it with the old hose. Either it was made poorly, or the hose has deteriorated. Installing a new crimp may not address either issue.
Getting a 100 points installation - that also works - is a tall order. I would be especially suspicious of any NOS drier.
packrat, do you know what years used the inline muffler? My '72 came from the factory with the compressor-mounted muffler but of course only the inline muffler is repoped. My assumption was the inline muffler was 68(ish??)-72(ish??) then switched to the compressor mount in '72?

Oddball
I'm finding exactly what you just posted to be very true. When I had my system serviced about 2 months ago we found the hoses leaking at the couplings. Held good cooling until about a week ago. Now no cooling at all. I could probably add another lb of R12 but it's gonna keep leaking so I want to fix it right.
My desire to keep as stock as possible is due to car scoring 983 in the North Texas OCA show this past April before I bought it.
Fixing one thing at a time is getting expensive.
