is a 66 442's vin special

hi how do you tell if a 66 442 is real?? is there a special vin like teh 344 cars?? thank you

In 1966, the 442 was an option package on the Cutlass, not its own series as it was from '68 through '71. The VIN would not tell you if it was a 442. You need to find the build sheet or the original window sticker. I don't know that there would be any other way to tell. Others on here would know.

344 just denotes a F85 Standard post coupe with 330 engine. Henry

In 1966 the 344... VIN didn't even exist. 442s only got a unique VIN for the 1968-1971 model years. In 1966 you CAN tell a real 442 from the cowl tag, unless the car is Fremont-built, unfortunately.

Think again, in 1966 334 is the start of the sequence to identify the Standard F85 V8 series.
