Hello Mike. Do you have the old starter? Have you looked into having it rebuilt? I've got an extra used starter and suspect a few other members here do as well. But if you've got a core already I'd encourage you to look into having it rebuilt.

Mike, if you would like to have a modern starter for you car, look at https://www.robbmcperformance.com/pr...rter_3029.html.

I've not used this starter, but everything I have bought from Robb is extremely well-made (and good-looking). He offers parts and rebuilding service for most of his products.

He's a good communicator, so call or email him with any questions.

And I doubt a 394 starter would swap in as I believe there was at least two flywheel changes (flex plate) since 55 and the deck height is different. Don't know if that would effect the starter motor though. I do know that Steller on this site would know as he is the go to guy on all things starter generator related. Drop him a PM. And be carful how tight you tighten up that new generator belt. It's the easiest way to rune a generator on a 55 as it puts a strain on the bearing/ bushing and pulls the armature into the case runes everything......Tedd

I thought I heard you could change nose pieces and starter gears between starters, but I don't remember the details. This may not be accurate. I am curious what Stellar has to say.

I may be able to help if someone can give me the OE starter numbers for the 55 and 59 starters.I don't think the starters will interchange, but it is possible some of the parts will. With the OE 55 number I may be able to find other applications that use the same armature.
