1968 442 seatbelts

Should the 1968 442 have seatbelts in the back? I only have the lap belts in the front bucket seats.

Yes, the back seat should have seatbelts as well - 3 sets. Have you looked behind the seat bottom cushion assembly? Someone may have shoved all the seatbelts between the seatback and the seat bottom cushion where they can't be seen.

They may be under the rear seat or they were like me and removed them. If they had been removed I'm sure someone on here may have a set.

It was not uncommon for the rear belts to get pushed into the gap between the rear seat back and seat bottom cushions. Federal law required lap belts at every advertised seating position, and shoulder belts for the front outboard positions (except on convertibles) for the 1968 model year. Every car built by Olds that year came with them from the factory.

The best way to see is to pull the back seat bottom cushion. There are two tabs in the lower front of the seat cushion that need to be pushed back so they can clear the "hook" that holds the tab in on each side. Once the seat bottom is out, you will either see your seat belts or you will see where they were anchored!

Hopefully, you'll find them ...and not like mine where a PO had cut them off about a foot from the floor bolt
