Question: How often does this happen??

Back in high school (1984) I bought

<<this (Avatar pic)

Saturn Gold 1971 Cutlass S for $750, which served as my primary transportation.
Specs in 1984:
1971 Cutlass S Sports Coupe
Built in Arlington, TX (Fisher body 01058)
Saturn Gold exterior and white bench interior
PS,PB, A/C, fairly well equipped for the time.
350/2bbl, single exhaust, TH-350, 2.56:1, totally bone stock.

She ran fairly well after tune-up, had about 75K miles on her. A/C didn’t (and never has) worked, but everything else was in good enough shape and worked fine.

Did an engine rebuild in mid 1985, original block bored 0.30 over, 0.10 under stainless crank, street cam, tons of head work done (Ported and polished heads, 5-angle valve job, stainless valves), updated to factory 4bbl iron intake and Q-jet, Mallory electronic ignition, TH-400, and 3.55:1 Posi rear end. Added 442 boxed control arms and rear sway bar. She was a pretty damned quick car!

Sold to high school friend (Brian) spring 1986 (my right foot was VERY heavy…kept getting speeding tickets), car went with him to Oregon in 1987 where he had it for several years and was forced to sell around 2002/3. She was found behind a gas station in 2010 and he bugged the owner for months to get her back. He finally gave in and Brian repurchased in spring 2012, not running, engine missing, and in not so great shape. But he got her back on the road in late 2012 where she runs just as good as she did back in the mid '80's.

Current Specs:
350/4bbl Edelbrock Carburetor
Edelbrock Intake Manifold
Edelbrock Cam
9.5:1 pistons
TH-400 w/B&M shift kit
3.08:1 rear gears (posi that was back there is long gone)
Modified Electronic Ignition
And the heads from '85? IN THE TRUNK and in almost perfect condition! They went back on...

A few weeks ago Brian gave me a call and asked me if I wanted to buy her back! How could I resist?? So after almost 30-years I am getting my car back from high school.

I never wanted to sell her in '86 and he always kicked himself in the backside for selling it back in the early 2000's...and is not really thrilled to part with her again...but feels much better that it is going back to me where she will be well cared for. So the car is staying in the family so to speak.

Brian and I have talked to each other on the phone over the years but have not seen each other face to face since 1987. Tomorrow I am driving up to Oregon to visit (and I suspect consume a fairly large number of beers and talk ***** like we used to ) and bring the old girl back home.

It will be great to see him and get back something from my past that I always regretted parting with.

Pics and videos forthcoming.

It was great to meet you Larry! Also to those reading, I am nominating lemoldsnut as an outstanding seller of parts. I got a pair of inner fender wells for my '71 and they were priced well and in excellent condition. Only a small tear on the drivers side that is fixable and will not be seen after install.
I am also impressed with your collection. Really if I had the room I probably would have snagged that Toro you have.
