4.53/US gallon or 5.35/Canadian gallon - and we're amongst the cheapest gas prices in Canada. West coast (vancouver) is around 4.99/US gallon or 5.94/Canadian gallon.

This is just for regular 87 octane...Small wonder why canucks close to the border flock to the USA in droves to stock up on gas. It's almost 2.00/gal less in most cases.(and waaay cheaper groceries. BTW our milk prices are more expensive than our gasoline!!!).

I paid $3.77 tonight for 87 in Bensenville, IL. (Just west of O'Hare) I live in the city but work in the 'burbs, I save a lot on gas. Some places near downtown are $.60 higher.

However, 93 is about $.50 more, didn't it used to be $.20?

yes but it is a speciality....you wont find it at regular gas stations which only carry unleaded in generally 3 octane ranges 86-87 or 89 or 91-93 and add 10-15% ethanol

Yeah, those hard currencey stations lacing the border only tailor to tank tourism. You're probably likely to find it further inland, though.
93 isn't much. Most vehicles, here, will burn it without knocking. They did away with it, altogether, a few years ago (claiming improved distribution efficiencey) and now the minimum is 95

In Bermuda, 2.11/litre unleaded regular = US$7.99 / US gal
Diesel is cheaper: 7.19/ US gal
Kerosene is even cheaper: 6.55/ US gal and yes you can buy it at the pump (we use it for space heaters)(my mate uses it in his truck with no problems).

But that was back when a Corvette itself was $5,000 and not $50,000.

Just a quick note here: The Europeans and Aussies are using the RON (Research Octane) designation system here, while in the US and Canada we use the AKI (Anti-Knock index, or Research + Motor / 2) system.

RON numbers are 4-5 points higher than AKI numbers, so the 93 octane that Killian is discussing is the same as 87 octane in the US, and the 95 octane he mentions is the same as US 89 octane.

We used to, until somewhere in the mid-seventies.

That's why our high compression cars are supposed to run on 100 octane, and our W-30s are supposed to run on 102 octane.

In modern US terms, those are about 95 octane and 96 or 97 octane today.

I always thought it would be funny if in a futuristic movie the price of gas would like $2,563,545.00 and 9/10 per gallon.Does anyone know why they do that?

Ha. When I was younger, I always used to make a point of adding a cent to the price on the sign when thinking or talking about it, but that was when the price was 85.9¢ a gallon.
Now that it's over $3, who really cares about the extra 9/10 of a cent, which is less than a third of a percent of the price?

When you were young it was 85.9 I can remember it being 29.9 or 39.9.Gas going over a $1.00 was a rumour.I remember hearing,so and so works where they make those pumps and their making them with the extra digit.
I live out in the country when I was younger there was at least 10-15 gas stations/small store or garage. Now theres 2 and one is in direction I seldom go so basically there's one. I work alot down in Baltimore and DC area.People there can't beleive it when I tell them the closest traffic light not counting the blinking one is 19 mile closest Mcdonalds is 20 mile.

I remember when it was in the high 20s, and my grandfather cursing up a storm when it went to 30¢, but when I was buying it, and discussing it myself, it was already up well into the 80s.

It's from Monty Python. They did a skit comparing how poor they were and everyone had a one up on the other. The reference to the corridor is at about 1:12 Enjoy.

I remember when the price of a gallon of regular was only 2¢ less than premium.

Within a two mile radius, gas is $3.49 to $3.79 for 87 octane in N.E.Ohio. Being in my 60's I "remember" when it was a little cheaper, or was it? I was making $1 an hour in 1965. Gas was in the low $.20's. Even lower because stations had "gas wars." Sunoco sold 112 octane, Amoco had a 107 octane Supreme. It was what we called "white" gas, no lead. It had phosphorus instead and your spark plugs stayed cleaner, so they said. I use to change plugs monthly! Talk about overkill. The second most thing we though about was performance in our cars. Ken

Except there's a shortage of gasoline there right now, just like there's a shortage of everything else. What good is a low price if no gas is available?

Here's just one of about a zillion stories on the subject. If they don't have flour, milk, and diapers, I doubt they have much gasoline.
