Found that the drums were rusted to the lugs really...really tight (the car sat for awhile before I bought it 2 months ago). Had to remove the entire wheel assembly and hammer the lugs out....
Bear in mind that some of the early hub assemblies had the hub STAKED to the lugs, and required a special cutting tool to separate the assembly.

As for what I did with my Olds today... I watched he '85 442 Odometer turn over to 51,000.0 on the way home.
I'm sure it's more like 150k on most of the parts, but the engine is almost new.

I swore at mine because it refused to rev.......then discovered I had trapped the wire under the cap and it probably should not have run at all, so I apologised

well it was my b day and I think I finally fixed my leaky trans issue. turns out my dipstick o ring was gone lol. I topped it off and said wth why not take it for a spin before I start having a few beers. So I took it for a spin and had a blast even if it was a quick 10 min. drive

Thanks... Words can't describe how good it felt to drive it home. Now I need to start on the interior. Trying to make it out to the Good Guys show in Scottsdale later this year.

Been fixing up various oil leaks, exhaust gaskets, valve cover gaskets, EGR blockoff, PCV and various vacuum lines. Rebuilt Q-jet from Summit, new PS pump & pulley, trim rings and new BFG's....

and I've only driven it 4 or 5 times since purchase in May... but about to start driving pretty regularly. I'll post some pics after it gets cleaned up a little

first time I was able to do somthing on my Olds

Something simple like just changing the oil and filter took me about two hours( should have been a twenty minute job) but this is the first thing I've been able to do since my operation and it felt really good to get my hands dirty instead of watching someone else do it. And by the way I had to redo the filter as usual because of a fish mouthed gasket , seems I do that about 1/3 of the time you think I would learn, nice puddle of oil for the wife to stare at on the driveway slab.....Tedd

body rot

Guys;
Started on the body rot this weekend on my 66 Cutlass, I have most of it cut out. Now it is time to order the rocker panels and get some sheetmetal to make the rest of the under body patchs, I am on my way this morning to fill my tank for the welding gas, still have a long way to go though.
Thanks Ron

Put a new set of Radial TAs on with a new set of lugs with a lock. 225/70/14 on Super Stock 1s. Also just installed the USA 630 II stereo. Looks fantastic and sounds great. And me and the boy put another coat of Carnuba on her last night, can never have too much wax.

what have you done to your olds today

Took the wife for a ride today Now on the way over to our favorite coffee shop, it just so happens that they repaved a section of the road. So from a rolling start(paving started at an intersection). I punched it. Tires chirped, I hit second and another chirp. Third gear the same, as well as 4th. The wife says to me what are you doing ? My response -- Having Fun
Ain't life a blast !!!!!

I washed the Delta and took it for a drive for the first time in about a month. I've been neglecting it while finishing off the Cutlass.

Today I cut off the old blowed up exhaust and installed a "Pypes X system" with Thrush Welded mufflers stopping right at the rear end.
Maybe a little more tweaking then its off to a welder to make it tight.
It took a little cutting of the pipe and pushing and pulling and I think a little more before Im satisfied.

Today I unplugged the wire running from blower control to the blower relay, to find out why the blower only works on high. Then I put the plug back on, and the blower worked on all three settings.

Went a a drive today to listen to the exhaust.
The mufflers do not sound like Flowmasters and I am disappointed in that.
They sound deep but more like turbos that are blowed out.
I probably will be changing out the mufflers for a sound I like better.
Here is a picture of the crazy exhaust before I take it to get welded.

Finally had a day off of work so I pulled the front and rear seats, adjusted the wire underneath the front bench so that I can now move it again. While the seats were out, I pulled the replacement carpet that the previous owner put in there and laid it down properly this time.

Afterwards, I felt that I owed myself a nice hour long cruise...felt nice!

Don't X pipes or crossovers have a tendency to make 'em a little quieter? I'm sure you're aware that you can get Flowmasters with different numbers of chambers to vary the sound???

Those aren't Flowmasters, they are Thrush welded.
And I want Flowmaster 40s, they are the loudest!

SI 442 try the hooker aero chambers much better imo . I also have an x pipe and my exhaust is louder than hell. You can usually hear me about 3 block away. lol

Re-routed the poorly made stainless exhaust system on my '61 D, it sat about an inch and a half above the rear tyre and has took some nice chunks out of it over time! I've routed it over the axle which to me seems a better idea. Also replaced the rear brake pipes, I'm off work this week and am hoping to get it on the road in the next couple of days so with a bit of luck there'll be an Olds cruising the streets of Derbyshire real soon!
