Best gasket sealer

I went to the local parts place today to pick up some supplies in preparation to put my 355 back together. I started looking at gasket sealers and times have sure changed. There was red, blue, copper, black, ultra black.......thermostat, differential exhaust........the list goes on and on. The last time I did this I had a tough time choosing between Permatex 1 or 2. One thing that I have learned over the years is that everyone you talk to has a different thought on installing gaskets. Sealer on 1 side, sealer on both sides, no gasket just sealer, no sealer just gasket etc. Heck when I tore this engine down the previous builder had put red Permatex on every bolt thread including the head bolts. I was wondering if you guys would be willing to share some of your best practices for preventing leaks. How about the rope main bearing seal vs the rubber seals?

I like something called THE RIGHT STUFF. Very good for aluminum intake end seals, using no gasket. Similar to what current makers are using instead of gaskets.

I use the perm. aviation form-a-gasket sealant liquid on just about everything...the longer it sits in the container the thicker it gets...also have used the neoprene seals with no problems. ...your right now a days there are are way to many choices

I have used Ultra Black on everything that needs sealer except rear ends for years, it's easy to use takes very little to get the job done and lasts.

Right Stuff for silicone apps, such as end seals in the corners of frt. and rear intake seals, end seal at frt timing cover and rear main oil pan seal in the corners

Perm. Aviation Form-A-Gskt. liquid or High Tack Gskt. spray for all gaskets. I use these products on both sides for steel head gskts. and have never blown a head gskt.
