Good to see a Grandpa's car stay in the family. Having a car that has survived with much of its originality intact is a real plus.

yeah, the neat thing is my Grandpa kept most everything. I've got some papers that point to a women that bought the car new in Jan of '57. then a person that my Grandpa worked with had a son that flipped cars. He bought it in '85 and had it for a year until my Grandpa bought it. there are plenty of old letters from the 80's and 90's where my Granpa wrote to salvage yards and owners asking if they had certain parts and trim pieces (now we write emails, lol). He visited swap meets buying up what he could find just to have extras if needed. The car came with some extra trim, taillights, tailight bezels, spare tire, etc. He even kept the old parts that came off like a choke and oil switch that werereplaced.

54-56 owners

well as of last Saturday I am the proud owner of 2 1955 Oldsmobile 4 door hardtops. both we project cars of a good friend of mine and he lost interest. one was started in 1991. it has front subframe from a 1975 olds delta,350/350 combo.tilt column, late model radiator and all the body work is done. cant wait to get them home and get started on them if you look at my avatar I plan on one looking like it. its an old gene Winfield custom. need a good 56 bumper

Congratulations and welcome to C.O. Send questions to the Vintage section and you should be able to get lots of help. There are many '50's owners who "hang out" there that will be helpful. Larry

Hey cobalt! Thank you for welcoming me to this site! It makes one feel good. Well, to answer your question, my 56 oldsmobile is the 4 door with the post. It was a "barn find". It has surface rust ALL OVER but the floors and trunk floor seem pretty solid. ALL CHROME IS GONE FROM BUMPERS!! and never having done a restoration project, i have found out the hard way HOW EXPENSIVE it is to re-chrome the bumpers! I'm at the very beginning stage of getting the car to run again. So far i've had to replace the fuel tank, fuel line and fuel pump. We will see what will be next. I will post pics a soon as i can but for now have no doubt is not pretty. Anyway...thanks a million! We shall keep in touch!

I have a 55 Super 88 4dr sedan that I saved from death at a chicken farm. The car is mostly complete. 324 rocket 4bbl ( less than 100 miles on a rebuild ) runs very good. Auto Trans, power steering and brakes. Missing front rt fender, tie bar, driveline and a few other parts. Depending on response to this post I will either part out or sell whole. Car is located in Eugene, Oregon.

If you decide to part it out, call me first. I need power steering badly for my 55.

That being said, I hope someone will rescue and restore it.

First post

I just picked up a 55 Olds two door. I know very little about this car, in fact very little about 55 Olds in general. But I like the look of the car. So count me as a owner.

'56 88 Holiday Coupe here! I drug it home last month. She's a roller and a junkyard rescue so much work ahead of me. I'm looking for a donor car so I can put an original 324 back in.

Also, I started a Facebook group just for 54-56 Olds because I saw there wasn't one. Please join! The link is in my signature.

55' Old's 88

I have 2 55' Old's 2dr sedans, one is a custom with air ride 350 Old's power with a 200 4r trans.
The other 55' is going to be a vintage 60's style straight axle Gasser! something to have some fun with and DARE to be different!!! im soo tired of the Tri 5 chevy guys getting all the attention at the local shows. I think this just might do the trick!!

I was looking to put dual exhaust on my 1955 Super 88 Holiday. I dont see how the pipe fits around the power booster.

It can and is done all the time but its not for the faint of heart, get close to your muffler guy you will need it. You will have to go through the X frame (burn a hole) about the same size as the right hand size then cross over to the left along the left hand rail then exit through the spring perch and out to the rear. I've seen several ways to do this but all the good ones go through the X frame. Do not drop the exhaust under the frame or you will be replacing it every time you go over a speed bump. There should be a thread about this as it comes up a couple times a year you might try a search or go to this link and search the pictures at the bottom of the page. Not the way I did it but a very clean but complicated job......http://www.rkmotorscharlotte.com/sal.../198734...Tedd
