1955 Olds Hydramatic Question

No battery in car at this moment so I can't check if dash indicator is working. Since I am about to unstick engine (hopefully); should the position of the column shift be in the up position or the down position. Car is up on jack stands with tires removed so I can't roll the car.

all the way up on selecter is neutral. All the way down is reverse and locked in as a park position would do. Good luck on engine!
