Automatic Shift **** Thread

I'm looking into making my own shift for my car since its wearing a Pontiac one! My question is what is the thread pitch and the depth for the automatic shifter non dual gate? Plan is to drill the hole and epoxy the threaded insert. Any ideas on the best place to buy the insert?

Thead size 5/16"-18 pitch, overall height of **** is 1.790", ball has a counterbore of .756 dia with a slight chamfer, chamfer to bottom of counter bore is .928, insert starts at bottom of counter bore and continues another .372" in depth. the insert o.d. is hard to pickup but eyeballing apprears to be around .450".

Question why not buy one complete? The Part Place part #cp5237t $39+ shipping, I have heard they are slow and tough to deal with?

Regards, Pat

Instead of epoxy and an insert, could you use a Helicoil?

I've had no.issues with parts place but trying not to spend $40 for a shift ****. Heli coil may work with some epoxy to secure it.

They do make threaded inserts for wood working. Exterior thread is real course, like a wood screw. Inner threads come in various sizes and thread pitch. Check hardware stores or craft shops. Kind of like a heli-coil for wood.
