I just picked up a nice original for my 69. However there's a crack that needs to be repaired. Does anyone have any ideas on how to properly restore this?

This is a fairly common problem, but it's usually on the rim. Believe Eastwood sells a repair kit. Recall one of the weekend TV car programs, like Hot Rod TV showing how to do this. Good luck.

I did mine myself. Actually I took a look at what Eastwood kit was comprised of and took a inventory of what I had on hand made a few substitutions and went from there.

I used a epoxy paste called PC 11 which is white in color, same as my finished steering wheel was going to be. I then opened up all of the hair line cracks that were to small to except the paste filler and filled them to a little more than the diameter of the wheel, let it set overnight and carefully sanded the epoxy till I couldn't see the patches anymore. I then applied two coats of SEM etching primer and top coated with polar white enamel with a hardner added. Passed inspection at the Old's Nationals no point deductions.

I just started on mine. As Tedd said, open up the cracks (I use a 3-sided needle file). Since I have some in stock I plan to try the POR 2 part epoxy. I'm not sure how good it will adhere but it worked ok on my console repairs. Good luck...
