interchangeable parts from olds 350 rocket with chevy 350

Does anyone have an idea if parts from a chevy 350 sb are interchangeable with an olds 350 rocket. About to start my first engine rebuild & I don't want to start investing in parts that will not fit.

Ignition coil, radiator hose clamps, cap, rotor & points.
That is it.

really, that's it? So none of the internals will fit?

Not without custom machine work.

Chevy, Olds, Buick and Pontiac 350's are all unique.

Not quite.

You forgot the condenser!

If you want to be broad-minded, you could also include the alternator, regulator, radiator cap, and, in most cases, the radiator.

In non-stock parts, you may be able to interchange "universal" spark plug wires (Chevy normally has 90° ends, while Olds are straight).

I think the oil drain plug might be the same, too (Joe, can you confirm that? ).

Prior to the late 1970s, each GM division had their own proprietary engine designs (many feel that the switch to "corporate" engines was the start of the downfall of GM). Despite having similar displacements, these engines were completely different designs with different bore, stroke, rod length, bore spacing, etc. None of the castings or forgings interchange. In fact, the common 350 cu in designation is really a rounded off number. If you calculate the actual displacement of each division's "350", you will find that they are all different.

People have adapted Chevy (or other brand) internal parts (mainly rods and pistons) to Olds motors to achieve custom displacements, but his requires considerable custom machine work.

The bottom line is that an Olds 350 has about as much in common with a Chevy 350 as it does with a Ford motor.

No, the Olds had a slightly wider bore but shorter stroke than the Chevy 350. I also believe the Olds had a heavier crank than Chevy. 2 completely different engines that just happen to equal 350 cu in displacement.

Found out he couldn't transform his SBO into a tree-fitty fo-bolt main.

God looks after the ignorant. Not so sure about the willfully ignorant i.e. stupid.
