Those were the days. Now you see people asking in the thousands for cars with 170K on them.
I started driving in the early 1970's and since money was tight I drove a few clunkers with bald tires before I could afford a presentable car. I agree, that its crazy how much money todays cars will bring when they've got 150,000+ miles on them. Its a different world than what we grew up in

70 Chevy full size 1/2 ton
72 Cutlass Supreme-(350- 2bl, Viking Blue White Top, added 4bl and 12 Bolt Chevy rear end. Took tranny out to put in wife's 84 Cutlass Calais a week before we got married. Never saw the road again, recently parted out what was left of the old girl.
74 Datsun P/U (could watch the road pass underneath your feet)
78 Ramcharger
84 Ford Ranger
84 Cutlass Calais (t-tops, same one as above)
89 Chevy full size 1/2 ton
89 Cutlass Cierra
84 Cutlass Cierra GT (3.6L)
86 GMC Full Size 1/2 ton

84 Chevy full size 1/2 ton
97 Olds Aurora
2002 Impala
2002 GMC full size 1/2 ton
2007 GMC Acadia

How many of these have you even heard of?.
My list in order of ownership;

'54 Morris Minor - pos but my first car so I didn't care.
'63 Truimph Herald, the last body on frame mainstream British car, another pos although not as bad as the Minor.
'63 Vauxhall Viva, the first car I owned that would keep up with traffic, didn't burn oil or keep breaking down, I bought it at night, it was raining and I'd had a drink or two, - I got lucky!.
'67 Astin 1100, I keep wondering why I bought this rustbucket.
'68 Morris 1100 automatic, loved the 4 speed auto, better in every way than the Austin despite the only difference being the badge and the transmission.
Commer Imp van, amazing gas mileage, but crude and uncomfortable.
Wolseley 18/85, the most comfortable British car I've owned and the seats reclined to make a bed, aiding my romantic adventures no end.
Ford Transit van.
Austin 1300.
Leyland Sherpa van, I was given it or I wouldn't have considered this noisy unreliable and uncomfortable heap.
'66 VW Beetle, before they were collectible, always started, stopping and going round corners were another matter.
'70 Humber Sceptre, surprisingly quick and a great tow car apart from gas mileage dropping to single figures (from 28-30) when towing.
'76 Audi 100 GLS, no doubt it was a fine car once but it was worn out when I got it.
'79 Olds Delta 88 diesel, apart from the engine a great car.
'78 Olds Regency 98, '70 toronado 455 under the hood, I sold it to someone with a V12 Jaguar when I beat him in a drag race.
'78 Dodge D200 crewcab (ex USAF), slow but incredibly tough, it did everything I expected it to.
'79 Chevy Monza, worst American pos I ever owned.
'82 Lincoln mk6, the most comfortable car I ever had.
'82 Fiat Strada, suprisingly reliable and rust resistant.
'84 Vauxhall Nova sedan, I was amazed at this cars gas mileage and performance and its huge trunk (for a Toyota Echo sized car). I put 130k miles (totalling 241k) on this car and the only trouble I remember was an oil leak from the head gasket.
'87 Ford Sierra.
'88 Ford Granada.
'86 Chevy dayvan, sold for twice what I paid for it with 24 hours.
'88 Vauxhall Nova sedan, as good as the previous Nova but I was expecting lots this time round.
'79 Buick Century wagon, no frills v6 version, but almost completely reliable (the clock failed!), comfortable, decent gas mileage and a great tow car.
'82 Olds Cutlass wagon, I bought it for parts for the Century but kept it as it was in better shape. This car, more than any other I've owned, is one I wish I'd kept.
'94 Nissan Primera, unremarkable to drive but everything worked unfailingly.
'82 Buick Riviera, killed by rust.
'93 Ford Fiesta.
'87 Olds Delta 88 Royale Brougham, the best combination of performance, economy, comfort and reliability of any car I've owned.
'94 Nissan Micra, for a 1 liter hatchback this car is brilliant, quite capable of 70-80mph cruising all day and seems to use almost no gas while doing so. The only drawback is its tiny trunk.

Roger.

Some of you old timers have had some serious cars...I always thought my dad was bullshitting me when he used to say he lost count of all the cars he owned in the early 60's...not to mention all the 50's chevys he said they would buy up for $20 each just so he and his friends could have a smash up derby! Anyway heres my little list in order...

1981 Ford F-150
1978 Dodge Cordoba (in Sky Blue BTW)
1979 Chrysler New Yorker
1972 Olds Cutlass 'S'
1979 BMW 320i (POS car...rear struts rotted through the wheel wells...then tow chain broke towing it to the scrap yard for beer money, came back the next day and someone stole it!)
1981 Datsun 280ZX turbo
1988 Toyota Supra Turbo
1997 Jeep TJ
2000 VW Jetta (Wife's car...block heater shorted and burnt it to the ground)
2003 Mazda 3 (wife's car)
2003 Pontiac Grand Am
2001 Ford F-150
2007 F-150
2009 Toyota Venza (wifes car)

The cars I wish I didn't sell were my Amphicar, I just bought another Sunbeam Tiger or that would be one I would want back, my corvair spyder convertible with kelsey hayes wire wheels and my 1964 Corvair Rampside Pickup. The Stage I would have been worth a fortune but I didn't know better back then. Those were my favorites now gone.

Fun Thread

1973 Mustang Mach I 351C-2V (1979-1985) Got me through college - one day I'11 find it
1976 Cutlass Supreme (1984 - 1986) Loved that car
1970 Rallye 350 (1985 - 1999) Converted it to a 442 - my favorite car of all time
1988 Olds Cutlass Calais (1987-1990) Quad IV engine - really difficult to keep in the powerband
1971 Cutlass Convertible - (1987-1989) Another 442 conversion - matched the other car I had
1973 Cutlass S (1989-1991) Unusual car - Totally stock 350 4V, N10, gauges, triple black
1990 Chevrolet Lumina 4 dr. (1990-1993) The most fogettable car ever made
1971 Cutlass Supreme Coupe (1991-1993) - another beautiful car I let get away - was lo miles completely stock, tight, whatever the bright Red was in '71 with a white top and interior. Gave the thing away for 2200.00
1993 Mitsubishi Diamante (1993-1996) I liked that rice burner
1979 Chev. Corvette L-82 (1993-1994) The biggest mistake I've ever made in buying a car
1979 Pontiac Trans Am (1994-1999) Beginning to have a little extra cash -Non t-top, 400/4spd 43,000 mile car completely original bought from the original owner - a GM engineer. Paint went to hell in two years being used as a daily driver
1995 Olds Silhoutte Van (1996-1999) Indispensable during the kid years
1968 Hurst Olds W-46 (1998 to present) 63000 original mile everything matching blah, blah..
1995 Buick Riviera (1999-2001) Was a cool, yet impractical family car
1990 Cadillac Deville (1999-2000) Needed something to drive - sold the Rallye and the Trans Am on the same day
1999 Pontiac Firebird Formula 1LE (2000-2008) really cool uber rare (1 of 20) My wife wished I had it back - she loved that car
2001 Ford Expedition (2001-2007) Great vehicle - got our money's worth out of it and more
2007 Ford Expedition Limited (2007 to present) we're not selling this one - I'm a GM guy, but the Ford, with 90K miles, looks/acts/drives like brand new.
2003 Jaguar XKR coupe (2008-2011) beautiful car, so-so driving experience - and everything you've heard about ridiculous repair and maintenance costs is absolutely true
1972 442 Convertible - (2011 to present) the one I'm currently building - should be ready by April 15
2008 Corvette Z-06 (2011 to present) Black, and the fastest, quickest thing I've ever driven

No fair! you are all including your daily drivers and I didn't. I will need to add quite a few cars to my list to include all the daily drivers too. It was nice to see another corvair guy in the group consistent with the saying "nobody ever just owns one Corvair, they multiply."

Edit away! I did Corvair, never had one so I'm not sure why I feel I have to own one someday. (One?)

The reason I did was because they were inexpensive to buy at the time that I needed transportion, and they served that purpose well. Basically, a throw away car.

I did. The owner featured that car on my site about a year ago. Low and behold, wanted to sell it so after a lot of convincing with my wife, I pulled the trigger. Got it delivered this past weekend and it was exactly as described. I love it!

I talked myself out of going to look at it several times about a year and half ago when it was in this area.

Hmm. My list is pretty short.

First car: 1979 Caprice Aerocoupe. Wasn't as hopped up as dad has it now. Was all stock when I had it except for Craiger SS wheels.

When the transmission went out in the Caprice, Dad bought me a 1990 Pontiac 6000. I never had any love for this car and unfortunately treated it as such. Poor car went through alot.

This is my daily driver to this day. Bought it for $625 in 2006. Just been keeping her going ever since.

I married this car. =) 1991 Mustang LX. This is what my wife was driving when I met her, and just recently sold to our niece.

1977 El Camino. I love these trucks, but unfortunately this one was never realized as a tree trimmer was cutting limbs down OVER the car while I was at work. An unfortunate insurance claim. Still miss this one even though I barely had it for a few months.

The wife's new car. 1987 Cutlass Salon. She drives it every day and hauls around our little one. We bought this car literally a month before we found out she was pregnant. We'll get more doors some day, but for now, she still likes the cool factor.

OK, this will probably be embarrassing...I'm gonna do it in age order of the vehicles. These are vehicles I've personally owned, not ones that were in my family:

1952 Chevrolet Styline Special
1955 Chevrolet 150 2-door sedan
1956 Chervrolet 210 4-door hardtop
1965 Rambler Ambassador 990
1966 Plymouth Belvedere
1968 Dodge Charger
1971 Chrysler Newport
1972 Oldsmobile 98 Regency
1974 AMC Gremlin X
1976 AMC Pacer D/L
1976 Chevrolet K10 pickup
1977 AMC Gremlin
1978 AMC Gremlin
1989 Dodge Grand Caravan
1994 Plymouth Grand Voyager
1994 Dodge Spirit
1996 Plymouth Voyager
1999 Plymouth Voyager
2000 Plymouth Neon
2002 Dodge Caravan
2004 Dodge Neon <<current ride
2006 Dodge Caravan
2007 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx <<current ride

Sorry, it's kinda Mopar-heavy. But I really love Oldsmobiles.
