yeah, my guess is the ticket taker isn't making 10 x what a McDonalds employee is making.
Why don't they make k street in DC a toll road $1000 every time you drive through the toll booth. $100 to walk on the sidewalk .

Courtesy Oldsmobile

Wondering if anyone out there has any info, pics, stories or contacts that are related to an Olds dealership from Tallahassee Fla. My car was purchased new at Courtesy Oldsmobile at 1451 South Monroe St.in 1969 . I understand that this building is now the location of a company called Interstate Fire Systems and has been for a good while. I have spoken with the current owner of the property and he says that there is nothing left over from the Olds days.
I would love to make contact with anyone who may have worked at this dealership or anyone who owns a car that was also purchased there.

My '64 was sold new at Kent County Motors in Dover, DE. I've contacted the dealership and learned they purged all their old records in the late 1980s. Anyone of our brand in that area with an old photo would be appreciated.

Mine was sold there too. I got my ledger in '91 but that was only after visiting there after several rejected phone calls.

What I found out so far is that it eventually became Kendrick-Rowell Oldsmobile and that's all I've found.

Yeah, found that too. I actually called them yesterday and spoke with very nice guy. He explained that both original owners of Kendrick-Myers have passed. but that they also had a used car lot across the street from Bay high school.

Some more from the Lansing state journal. "dealerships we miss"

Picture appears to be a couple of blocks away from the Olds tower in the back ground on Allegan street. I was way to young to see this location in the flesh. But some time in the 60's they moved further east down Michigan ave. very close to East Lansing.

Use to race on the "Olds Freeway" west where it dead ended till they finished it. We marked off a 1/4 mile. The fresh concert had super traction compared to the skating pond dragstrip starting line.

I raced this arrogant new employee and who thought he was better than anyone else assh** Olds employee in the service dept. one day at lunch. He had a 70' Corvette LT 1 4 speed convert and thought it was a bad a** corvette. He was about 5'-6" tall and wore one of those French Berea's. At the time we raced I had sorted out my 70" F85 W31 auto with 4:33 s. We pulled out on to the Olds Expressway and I said "aren't you going to put the top up?" and he said "No". I then told him to yell go. He said "OK". Well dudes you should have seen the look on his face when I put two car lengths on him in first gear (I was looking in my LH side mirror as he was on my left). Then when I hit second I put another car length on him, so now I am 3 car lengths ahead and you can see him "rowing that 4 speed to catch me"! I hit third and keep my 3 lengths until we hit the 1/4 painted on an overpass abutment and he maybe gains 1/2 car length. He flies pass me as I am on the brakes hard like it mattered he passed me...........LOL

He never ever talked to me again and at meetings he would not make eye contact with me. If he did he would have seen me grinning from ear to ear!

Lost Pics.

Hey guys. What has happened to the photos from the start of this thread?
I simply see an image of a kitten with "photo not found" across it. Does anyone have some pics to update?

That's the PhotoBucket "bad link" placeholder.

You need to send a message to TK-65 and ask him why he took his photos down.

All the pics that I have posted on www.classicoldsmobile.com were also posted through photbucket, so no more pics from me either. Do you guys know of another free file sharing site?

Upload directly from your computer picture file using the "manage acct" tab here. You don't need a file share/storage site. You can store pix on Google photos free also.

I realize it is over a year old but I love Dave's story, which really was back in the day, his awesome W31 kicking a LT1 Corvette's ***. But that Vette had nearly 50 hp on him. It is almost like Oldsmobile fudged the hp numbers.

Is that a Mich. lic. plate? If so, than those low numbers are issued to state elected officals.

Dave, I am not sure what state this was taken in? Good chance, seeing crappy, damp cloudy weather.

I tried blowing it up, just to crappy of resolution.

Barbers - 1970 Oldsmobile Delta 88

Here is a head scratcher for you. This photo is from the Detroit Public Library digital collection. https://digitalcollections.detroitpubliclibrary.org/
We have what looks to be a photo shoot of a 1970 Oldsmobile Delta 88 with a bunch of barbers. Have you ever seen an ad like this? I would like to know if this ad campaign ran and what kind of copy went with this picture. In the meantime, add your own thoughts. How about... Presenting, The 1970 Oldsmobile Delta 88 a cut about the rest!

For a commercial featuring the barbers, scroll to the 1:30 point in this video. The barbers represent "the ordinary" who have to listen to inane comments from their customers.

In the commercials in the video above, they're constantly referring to Oldsmobile's "positive valve rotator" system. I've never heard of it? Did '70 Olds engines have a different valve system from other years?

Must be a protype for the 70 and they decided to put off some details till the 71 year. Rear bumper styling is exaggerated in the drawing. The rest looks as produced with PO2 deluxe wheel covers and dual white stripe tires which started for the 70 model year. Cool to see.

Yes, the valves rotate to reduce wear.

A friend of mine has a bunch of GM Business Builder magazines from early 70's. It's highlight innovative and award winning GM dealers. Pretty cool stuff.
The Chevrolet dealer I worked at was in one.
Here is the Olds related pictures.
